The preface says, "Wenchang is a monk. If he wants to understand Buddhist doctrines, he should consult his master. Why does he come to us for advice?" Yuan Zhen's "Record of the Stone Wall at Yongfu Temple" says, "The mysteries of the Buddhist scriptures should be explained to me by monks; I should not explain them to monks." Both of their statements are quite apt.</b></p>
