Later, Tian Fen became Chancellor, while Dou Ying was not reappointed, losing his power. His retainers gradually distanced themselves from him and neglected him, except for Guan Fu. When Wei Qing was General-in-Chief, Huo Qubing was only a Colonel; both later became Grand Marshal. Wei Qing gradually lost power, while Huo Qubing became increasingly prominent. Most of Wei Qing's former friends and retainers left him to follow Huo Qubing, except for Ren An, who refused to leave. Guan Fu and Ren An were both wise and righteous, yet both were ultimately exterminated along with their entire families due to other matters; the ways of the world are truly unpredictable.</b></p>
