春江潮水连海平，

海上明月共潮生。

滟滟随波千万里，

何处春江无月明！

The tides in the spring rivers as high as the sea arise.

The bright moon above the sea looks like accompanying the tides.

There are thousands of miles of the shining ripples,

Which approve the bright moonlight lights all the spring rivers!

江流宛转绕芳甸，

月照花林皆似霰。

空里流霜不觉飞，

汀上白沙看不见。

The rivers wind their ways among

wild fields full of flowers.

The moonlight poures through the woods with flowers, twinkling as snow beans.

The moonlight as white as frost senselessly flies,

So one cannot distinguish it with the white sands on the bars.

江天一色无纤尘，

皎皎空中孤月轮。

江畔何人初见月？

江月何年初照人？

The water and the sky reflect the same colour without any particles,

For there the moon alone in the bright sky hangs.

One may wonder who the first person that saw the moon at the bank was,

And when the moon over the rivers first looked at people was.

人生代代无穷已，

江月年年只相似。

不知江月待何人，

但见长江送流水。

Life is endless since generations survive generations,

While the moon over the rivers looks the same years after years.

Not knowing who the person the moon has been awaiting is,

One only sees the long river carrying water forward without pause.

白云一片去悠悠，

青枫浦上不胜愁。

谁家今夜扁舟子？

何处相思明月楼？

Like clouds over clouds, wandered slowly the wanderers,

And left the lovesick women sadness endlessly at Qingfeng Riversides.

From whose family the wanderer in the boat tonight comes?

Where is the woman in deep lovesickness on the moonlit balcony?

可怜楼上月徘徊,

应照离人妆镜台。

玉户帘中卷不去，

捣衣砧上拂还来。

The moonlight felt pity for the woman and lingered about.

It should be shining on the dressing-table as well as the wanderer.

It would not leave the woman's room even if the curtain was rolled down.

It would not leave the clothes-washing stone even if it was swept off.

此时相望不相闻，

愿逐月华流照君。

鸿雁长飞光不度，

鱼龙潜跃水成文。

Now , looking up, they could see the light but couldn't talk to each other.

If only they could fly with it to shine on their sweethearts.

The swan geese flied restlessly but could not fly over the endless light.

The fish and the dragons tried to swim and leap up only to make ripples.

昨夜闲潭梦落花,

可怜春半不还家。

江水流春去欲尽，

江潭落月复西斜。

Last night I dreamed of flowers falling into the secluded pool.

What a pity I haven't returned home when half the spring was over.

The water in the rivers seemed running off with the spring.

The moon was falling down in the west again over the pool.

斜月沉沉藏海雾，

碣石潇湘无限路。

不知乘月几人归，

落月摇情满江树。

The falling moon moved down slowly,

sinking in the sea fog.

Yet there is an immeasurable distance to cover between Jieshi and Xiaoxiang.

I don't know how many wanderers have returned home by the moonlight.

But the falling moon full of lovesickness is shining on the trees by the rivers.

1、标题的翻译

《春江花月夜》这个标题不好翻译。春、江、花、月、夜，这五种事物，集中体现了人生最动人的良辰美景，构成了诱人探寻的奇妙的艺术境界，令人心驰神往。现仿“Red Star over China”《红星照耀着中国》，译为“The Moon over the Flowers and Spring Rivers at Night”,包含月、花、春、江、夜。意为“明月照耀下的花海春江夜”。

2、正文翻译的标准

古诗英译，坚持“信、达、美”的翻译标准，保存原文意像。本诗翻译，“直译”与“意译”法兼用，多处采用“意译”法。采用直译法，以保存原诗意像之美，采用意译法，以实现汉语与英语成功转换。

［作者简介］

张若虚（约660--约720），唐代诗人。扬州（今属江苏）人。曾任兖州兵曹。生卒年、字号均不详。事迹略见于《旧唐书·贺知章传》。中宗神龙（705~707）中，与贺知章、贺朝、万齐融、邢巨、包融俱以文词俊秀驰名于京都，与贺知章、张旭、包融并称“吴中四士”。玄宗开元时尚在世。张若虚的诗仅存二首于《全唐诗》中。其中《春江花月夜》是一篇脍炙人口的名作，它沿用陈隋乐府旧题，抒写真挚动人的离别情绪及富有哲理意味的人生感慨，语言清新优美，韵律宛转悠扬，洗去了宫体诗的浓脂艳粉，给人以澄澈空明、清丽自然的感觉。
