Over the past four decades, the orchestra has evolved from its early days in Weston and Newton into a mature ensemble with a full range of traditional Chinese instruments, including Erhu, Dizi, Pipa, Guzheng, Banhu, Sheng, Cello, and Percussion. Today, it is capable of performing sophisticated orchestral repertoire.<br><br>In 2000, the GBCCA Chinese Music Youth Ensemble was established as one of the earliest Chinese music youth ensemble in the U.S. Members are selected through auditions, and the program has nurtured many accomplished soloists. We extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated instructors who have shaped the Ensemble's legacy, including <i>Shin-Yi Yang, Zhentian Zhang, Ping Li, Zhantao Lin, Hongwei Gao, Yan Ma, Ruomao Zhen, Yanrong Lu, Zhengshan Zhang, Tai-chun Pan</i>, and <i>Chi-Sun Chan</i>.</p> <p class="ql-block">The Youth Ensemble holds auditions every September for new members. It also hosts masterclasses and workshops, featuring renowned artists like erhu virtuoso Min Huifen and guzheng master Wang Zhongshan for demonstrations and coaching.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">The ensemble's accomplishments are made possible by the dedication of its members, the unwavering support of parents, and the encouragement of its audiences. Past conductors—including Jindong Cai, Yibin Chen, Yamin Xu, Shuhui Chen, and Ling Yang—alongside current Music Director Chi-Sun Chan, have elevated the ensemble's artistry through professional guidance, earning widespread acclaim.</p> <p class="ql-block">The Ensemble is dedicated to promoting Chinese music among both Chinese and international communities in the Boston area. Our mission is to provide opportunities for the public to experience and learn Chinese music, while also facilitating performances by visiting Chinese musicians and ensembles in Boston.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">In addition to regularly participating in Chinese New Year celebrations and other cultural festivals, the orchestra is frequently invited to perform at children's museums, art galleries, and various universities/schools to introduce Chinese music to diverse audiences.</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">We welcome musicians of all levels to join our rehearsals.
