故事 102：行和合之善，不妄语两舌
在印度民间传说中，有这么一个故事《牛是怎么死的》，这个故事用巴利文写成。据说，从佛陀时代就开始在摩揭国流传，佛陀在演说《十善业道经》时，曾讲过它。故事是这样的：　　
一头牛耕田回来，躺在一棵树下，很疲惫地喘着气。一只狗跑过来看它。
"唉！朋友，我实在太累了，明儿真想歇一天。"牛说。
狗听了，安慰了它两句，走开了。
狗在墙角遇到了猫，狗对猫说："伙计，我刚才去看了牛，这位大哥实在太累了，它说它想歇一天。也难怪，主人给它的活儿太多了。"
猫转身对羊说："牛抱怨主人给它的活儿太多，它想歇一天，明天不想干了。"
羊对鸡说："牛不想给主人干活了，它抱怨自己的活儿又多又重。唉！也不知道别的主人有没有这么狠心？"
鸡对猪说："牛不准备给主人干活了，它想去别的主人家。也真是，主人对牛一点儿也不心疼，让它干那么多的活儿，有时，还用鞭子粗暴地抽它。"
晚饭前，主妇给猪喂食，猪向前一步，说："主妇，我向你反映一件事。牛的思想最近很有问题，你得好好教育它。它不愿再给主人干活了，它嫌主人给它的活儿太多太重太脏太累了。它还说要离开主人，到别的主人那里去。"
得到猪的报告，晚饭桌上，主妇对主人说，"牛想逃跑，还到处抱怨，你准备怎么处置它？"
第二天一早，牛看到主人气势汹汹地冲向它，手里还提着一把刀。还没等牛明白怎么回事，刀已经深深地插进了它的脖子。
一头勤劳而实在的牛，就这样被传言"杀"死了。
佛说，人要善护"三业"善护口业，不讥他过；善护身业，不失律仪；善护意业，清净无染。善护口业，即不两舌，妄语。因为妄语是把刀，杀人于无形。
