Friendship Lasts Forever Music Concert 9/17

Friendship Lasts Forever Music Festival at Pritzker Pavilion Sept 17 @2:30PM

Over one thousand performers, a wondrous spectacle of music, dance and more, showcasing Chinese and American cultures, will present Friendship Lasts Forever, a two- hour gala concert at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, Chicago, at 2:30pm on Sunday, September 17, 2017. The cast are from both China and the US: leading pop music artists, grand concert band, choir, and dancers in traditional Chinese attire. Plus, a variety of classical opera and musical pieces by top-rated tenor, soprano, and baritone singers.

With over 30 performing groups from the Midwest, this concert signifies what it means to be unified, not only in enjoyment of performing arts but also in cultural sharing. It demonstrates the greatness we can create in cooperation across cultures. You will see American groups perform Chinese pieces and vice versa.

This is the first time ever that Chinese and American performers work together on such a grandiose scale in Millennium Park. China Daily (June 7, 2017) quoted Hong Lei, Chinese Consul General in Chicago, describing the festival as "one of the major Chinese cultural events of the year."

Sept. 17, 2017 @ 2:30PM

Address: Millennium Park Pritzker Pavilion,

201 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60602

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Friendship Lasts Forever is a great example of music education in action, and is a model for international harmony and world peace. This type of cooperation was suggested by the National Association for Music Education as far back as 1956 " We believe that music has a special mission in a world torn with anxiety and doubt, dissension and fear; in a world in danger of being dehumanized and disillusioned by materialism, mechanization and skepticism"

One of the conductors for the concert is Dr. Jeffrey Scott Doebler, who has visited China twelve times. All were teaching trips, and nine of the twelve were concert tours with Windiana Concert Band.

Selected repertoire includes…

Festive in Village, which is a famous Chinese composition.

Cloud Gate by Timothy Loest:  Mr. Loest is a music educator from Itasca who plans to attend the performance. Of course, Cloud Gate is the sculpture known as The Bean, which is on display next to Pritzker Pavilion.

Fugue on Yankee Doodle by John Philip Sousa:  Part of this work was performed by Maestro Sousa and his band for the 1893 worlds fair in Chicago.

September by Chicago-based Earth, Wind, and Fire.

The concerts grand finale will feature three selections performed by all 1000 of the festival participants:  the famous Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower, the epic Chinese television theme Song of Heroes, and Friendship Lasts Forever (Auld Lang Syne), which was made popular in China by the American film Waterloo Bridge.
