Each face of the blade carved in low relief with a ground of tightly curled 'C' scrolls, the tang of the blade inserted into a bronze bird-form haft, inlaid with gold and supported on a tubular socket, pierced horizontally for attachment to the handle. The bird's tail extending outwards to form a support for a jade tiger counterweight that balances the blade. The jade tiger carved in a recumbent position with its front paws holding onto the blade tang. Areas of the green jade blade and tiger counterweight rendered opaque due to burial.
