<p class="ql-block">I am sitting in my small living room, bathed in warm light, having just finished typing this campaign message to the residents of Guelph—specifically those in Ward 6.</p><p class="ql-block">I have lived in Guelph for nearly over 23years. I’ve watched this city evolve from a sleepy, old industrial town into a place bustling with new shops, yet I’ve also witnessed students working part-time at the corner café struggling to scrape together rent, and long-time neighbors—skilled tradespeople who worked a lifetime—forced to take odd jobs after retirement just to make ends meet. In recent days, I’ve visited community centers in the south and workshops in the west, listening to hundreds of neighbors share their heartfelt grievances and hopes. Ultimately, my vision boils down to three priorities: eradicating poverty, creating jobs, and ensuring secure housing.</p><p class="ql-block">I want to attract green technology and advanced manufacturing companies to our area and establish community skills training centers where workers can retrain for free, so no one has to uproot their family and move to another city just to earn a living. I also want to cut through red tape and push developers to build more housing that working-class families can actually afford, allowing those who work here to truly put down roots. Furthermore, I aim to partner with local businesses and community organizations to provide rent subsidies for families struggling to get by, ensuring that children from low-income households have nutritious meals and access to a good education.</p><p class="ql-block">As I poured myself another cup of hot lemon water just now, I reflected on what we ordinary people really want: the chance to work steadily, live securely, and ensure that no one gets left behind. Looking out the window at the students walking by with skateboards and the workers heading home with their tool bags, I am more certain than ever: my goal isn't just to craft catchy campaign slogans.
