The ked ving horns above, and inward curving fangs below, separated by a pair of extended ears the upper edge pierced with a small hole for suspension. The lustrous stone mottled dark gr rown. </p><p class="ql-block"> A similar example, but carved on only one side, is in the Freer Gallery of Art Collection, accession number F1991.52. In its discussion on this piece, the Freer Gallery notes that such ornaments appear to be more than mere decorations. They were all excavated from burial sites, found on prominent locations of the body, and are most likely power and status symbols for clitc members of the Hongshan community.
