Holidays always seem to fly by, and just like that, this short trip is already drawing to a close.

Over the past few days, whether strolling through bustling pedestrian streets, browsing mall shop windows, or quietly visiting museums & libraries, I couldn't help but notice that the crowds were consistently dominated by women. The imbalance was so apparent that it could be spotted at a glance, which is a clear proof that the gender ratio here does lean noticeably to one side.

After returning, I looked up the data. According to the latest official statistics, Seoul does indeed have a slightly higher female population, with an overall gender ratio of 96 to 100—meaning for every 100 women, there are 96 men, and women make up about 51% of the total population.

Breaking it down by age, the concentration of young women is even more striking. Among Seoulites in their early twenties, the ratio drops to 87.4—only about 87 men for every 100 women. In trendy neighborhoods like Hongdae or Seongsu-dong, that sense of female dominance probably feels even more pronounced.

Statistically speaking, the gap isn't huge, so you wouldn't expect to feel such a strong imbalance while walking down the street. But reality often tells a different story.

That said, none of this really bothers me. As long as my wife & daughter are enjoying themselves & having a great time shopping, I'm more than happy to play the role of a devoted "bag carrier" by their side. And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way..
