A legendary star, Patrick Tse, has passed away.

Mr. Tse was 89 years old, which is considered a "joyous funeral" for an exceptionally long life. According to various reports, he was well cared for by his family in his later years, and his son Nicholas Tse made it back in time to see him one last time before he passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

Apart from Patrick Tse, another HK celebrity who passed away a few days earlier was the widely acclaimed producer, Nansun Shi, at the age of 75. She was the driving force behind HK cinema's golden era, having produced classics such as A Better Tomorrow & A Chinese Ghost Story.

I'm not a huge film buff, but I do know influential figures like these two in the film industry.

There's actually another person I admire who also passed away last week, though I'm sure many of you may not know him. He is Japanese writer, Keigo Higashino.

He passed away on July 23, 2026, due to colon cancer at the age of 68. He was a world-renowned bestselling author, known for works such as The Devotion of Suspect X & Journey Under the Midnight Sun. I enjoy his mystery novels.

Over the past few years, it seems I've seen quite a number of people—both acquaintances & celebrities I don't know personally—pass away one after another. Perhaps struck by a sudden wave of emotion, these past few days I've been thinking about my late father, who has been gone for 25 years.

When my dad passed away in 2001, I wasn't by his side, and the last time I saw him was a year before his sudden death.

Compared to the celebrities mentioned above, my father's passing at 62 was relatively early. He wasn't a famous figure, just an ordinary man. But in my heart, he was someone who influenced half my life.

Now, years later, I've also entered my sixties. Recently, as I recall the little moments I shared with my father, I have a vague sense that I now understand certain attitudes he had toward things back then, which I didn't quite comprehend at the time.

It took me over 25 years to finally grasp some things concerning my late father. I'm grateful that in my lifetime, at this age of sixty, I've come to understand my father at last..
