Back in the countryside again, jogging through the fields at dawn.

Every year, I make 2-3 trips to my wife's hometown. Perhaps this is my way of making up for the fact that in the first 40 years of my life, I never really experienced the countryside.

I grew up as a city kid. And in my homeland, there are no thatched cottages or pastoral scenes, only towering high-rises. Yet I find myself drawn more to the rural fields than to the urban bustle, just as I have always preferred utter silence to noisy clamor.

Maybe it's because I know I could never spend the rest of my life in the countryside, so every time I return, I cherish these brief rural moments all the more.

Before I knew it, I had been coming back to my wife's hometown for 20 consecutive years. This time, however, marked the first time we experienced a typhoon in the countryside. Typhoon Noul made landfall at this very moment, as if rejoicing & cheering for our arrival.

Even so, this moment will eventually pass. It may arrive with fury, but it will always subside into calm. And what awaits us next is the morning sun & scorching heat, for we are now in the middle of summer.

Soon enough, everyone will forget about Noul, because that's just how life is—life goes on as before..
