My 14‑year‑old grandson Ethan is a permanent resident of Australia, yet I have noticed he always carries a quiet longing for his ancestral Chinese homeland in his heart.</p><p class="ql-block">In July 2026, he took part in the “Root‑Seeking in China · Journey across Tianfu” and “Cultural Roots · Discover Deyang” Study Tour for Australian‑Chinese Youth. Inside the indigo‑dye workshop, they tied and rinsed fabric by hand, experiencing the time‑honoured traditional craft with their own hands. At Deyang Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, they viewed Tai‑Chi medical murals and experienced the profound wisdom of Chinese tuina therapy and physiotherapy. In the industrial‑innovation exhibition hall, they witnessed humanoid robots and smart technology, amazed by the rapid scientific progress of China. In their spare time, they gathered for authentic Sichuan‑style banquets, watched films and chatted with one another.
