Due to his background in studying in the United States, Yang's appointment lifted Deng's danger.

In 1986, in a hospital room, a dying man held up two fingers.

He shook his head and smiled.

He added: "Ten yuan for the atomic bomb, ten yuan for the hydrogen bomb."

(Note: After the successful atomic bomb test, the government initially planned to distribute bonuses. However, due to financial difficulties at the time, the initiative was postponed for 15 years. The total prize money of 20,000 yuan was eventually awarded to over 1,000 researchers, while Deng Jiaxian received only 20 yuan from his two nuclear research projects.)

In 1948, Deng Jiaxian sailed across the ocean

and enrolled in the physics department at Purdue University in the United States.

In August 1950, he earned his Ph.D.,

having completed all credits and passed his dissertation defense in less than two years.

The year he received his doctorate,

The extreme difficulty of atomic bomb research went without saying.

With no time for celebration or rest,

Deng Jiaxian threw himself heart and soul into hydrogen bomb research.

Just three years later,

China's first hydrogen bomb was successfully detonated.

Deng Jiaxian's wife, Xu Luxi, recalled:

"I asked him, 'Where are you being transferred to?' He said he couldn't say.

On September 20,1945, Mao Zedong inscribed the phrase "Serve the People."
