<p class="ql-block"><b>■ 广 益</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b> 动词fall(续五),动词get</b></p><p class="ql-block"><b>fall through动词+副词</b></p> <p class="ql-block">地铁罢工</p> <p class="ql-block">Our holiday plans fell through because of transport strikes.(我们的度假计划因运输系统罢工而作罢。)这里fall through表示落空,成泡影。</p> <p class="ql-block">狼吞虎咽</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>fall to动词+副词</b></p><p class="ql-block">When the children saw the food on the table, they fell to eagerly and soon ate everything.(孩子们看到桌上的食物就大吃起来,一会就吃光了。)这里fall to表示开始做什么事情。</p> <p class="ql-block">澳网公开赛</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>fall to动词+介词</b></p><p class="ql-block">All through the Australian Open, seeded players were falling to a dark horse.(澳网公开赛中种子选手们纷纷败在一匹黑马手下。)这里fall to表示被击败或杀死。</p> <p class="ql-block">华裔诺贝尔奖得主丁肇中教授</p> <p class="ql-block">It falls to me to thank Prof. Samuel Ting for his lecture.(大家让我来向丁肇中教授的讲演表示感谢。)这里fall to someone to do something表示应当由某人来做某事,某事是某人的责任。也可以用fall to someone’s lot/share to do something。丁肇中是美籍华裔物理学家,1976年诺贝尔物理学奖获得者。Samuel Ting是他的英文名字。</p> <p class="ql-block">子承父业</p> <p class="ql-block">The throne will fall to the eldest son.(王位由长子继承。)这里fall to someone表示按法律属于某人。</p> <p class="ql-block">旅行准备</p> <p class="ql-block">I fall to thinking about the travel arrangement.(我开始考虑旅行安排。)fall to doing something表示开始干什么事情。</p> <p class="ql-block">生意萧条</p> <p class="ql-block">The business has fallen to the ground since last year.(从去年起业务情况一蹶不振。)fall to the ground表示事情失败,摔个大跟斗。</p><p class="ql-block"><b>fall under动词+介词</b></p><p class="ql-block">Your suggestion falls under the heading of technical innovation.(你的建议属于技术革新类。)这里fall under/within表示列于某项目下或某标题下。</p> <p class="ql-block">曼谷</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>get about动词+副词</b></p><p class="ql-block">In Bangkok, stories have been getting about concerning a possible military coup.(在曼谷,可能发生军事政变的流言已传开了。)这里get about/abroad/around/round表示消息,流言等流传开来。</p> <p class="ql-block">超级女声</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>get above动词+介词</b></p><p class="ql-block">She’s been getting above herself since she won the Super Girl Singing contest.(超级女声比赛得奖后她就骄傲起来。)get above oneself表示自视甚高,自高自大。</p> <p class="ql-block">老板惹不起</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>get across动词+副词</b></p><p class="ql-block">I can’t seem to get my message across to him.(我似乎没能把我的意思向他说清楚。)这里get across/through意思是为别人所理解或接受,使某事物为别人所理解或接受。有时可用介词to指明对方。</p><p class="ql-block"><b>get across动词+介词</b></p><p class="ql-block">Take care not to get across your boss, he could have you dismissed.(注意不要顶撞你的老板,他可能炒你的鱿鱼。)这里get across someone表示激怒或招惹某人,与某人作对。也可以用get up against someone.</p> <p class="ql-block">教练挑毛病</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>get after动词+副词</b></p><p class="ql-block">The coach is always getting after the trainee for trifles.(这个教练经常挑运动员的小毛病。)这里get after someone表示斥责某人,挑某人的毛病。常用进行时。也可表示缠住某人去干什么事,相当于 be after someone。</p> <p class="ql-block">代考枪手</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>get ahead动词+副词</b></p><p class="ql-block">If you want to get ahead in the TOEFL test, you must listen to advice from the ghost examinees.(如果你想考好托福,必须向枪手们取经。)ghost examinee指专门替别人参加考试的人。get ahead 在这里表示成功,有进步,考试领先等等。有时用介词of指明领先于谁,如</p><p class="ql-block">You’ll soon get ahead of the rest of the class if you really make up your mind to do so.(如果你下决心好好干,你会很快超过其他同学。)</p>
