It was equipped with over 400 cannons and was a crucial coastal defense structure in the Caribbean during the Spanish colonial period.</p> <p class="ql-block"> 该堡垒坚固强大，曾抵御过英国、荷兰等国的多次进攻，仅1598年被英军攻陷过一次。</p><p class="ql-block">This fortress was extremely strong and durable. It had withstood numerous attacks from countries such as Britain and the Netherlands. It was only captured by the British army once in 1598.</p> <p class="ql-block"> 1961年，堡垒由美国国家公园管理局接管并改为军事历史博物馆。1983年与圣胡安其他堡垒一同被列入联合国世界文化遗产。</p><p class="ql-block">In 1961, the fortress was taken over by the National Park Service of the United States and transformed into a military history museum.
