The daisy follows soft the sun,

And when his golden walk is done,

"Wherefore, marauder, art thou here?"

"Because, sir, love is sweet!"

We are the flower, Thou the sun!

Forgive us, if as days decline,

We nearer steal to Thee, —

Enamoured of the parting west,

The peace, the flight, the amethyst,

Night's possibility!

雏菊温柔地追随太阳，

当他金色的步履停歇，

她便羞怯地坐在他脚边。

他醒来时，发现身旁的花儿。

“小强盗，你为何在此？”

“先生，因为爱是甜蜜的！”

我们是花朵，你是太阳！

请原谅我们，悄悄向你靠近——

当白昼将尽，

沉醉于西沉的落日，

那宁静、那流逝、那紫晶霞彩，

黑夜的未知！

太阳醒来时，看到雏菊守在脚边，亲昵地嗔怪它是“marauder”，其实是一种温柔的表达。雏菊并没有真的夺去什么，只是用爱和依恋“占据”了太阳的目光与心，这个词凸显了爱的力量不可抗拒。意译为小强盗。

trust一词多义，括号是为了点明多义项

“overcoat of clay”（泥土外衣）是对肉身的隐喻，象征灵魂暂时栖居的物质躯壳，外衣意译为皮囊。

人归厚土，魂入黄泉，转世投胎，生生不灭。这是中国老祖宗的看法。狄金森本诗的灵魂同样有它的trust，即赴天堂。译文的厚土，息壤偏意译，请意会

波托马克河

我小时候，有个女人死了。

今天，她唯一的儿子

从波托马克河起身，

面带胜利荣光，

去见她；季节

流转多么缓慢，

直到子弹削去了一个角，

他才飞快地逝去了！

天堂里是否也有荣耀，

我永远无法确定；

他们那尊贵的举止，

无人能旁证。

但在幻影中，女人和儿子

却显得无比自豪，

在我的脑海里来回踱步，

一如他们曾在空中。

波托马克河（Potomac River）是美国中东部的重要河流，流经华盛顿特区，分隔马里兰州与弗吉尼亚州，最终注入切萨皮克湾。

这里是美国南北战争（1861–1865）的核心战场之一，北军与南军多次在此展开关键战役。这条河不仅是地理名词，也象征着美国历史上的分裂与统一，以及战争带来的巨大牺牲。

诗中“从波托马克河上起身”的儿子，正是暗指在南北战争中牺牲的年轻士兵，（绝不能看作仅仅是一对母子）。这也是狄金森诗歌中常见的时代背景。

bullets clipt an angle是狄金森特色的隐喻，用子弹打断了时间的缓慢流逝，象征战争突然夺走了生命，让儿子得以“飞快地”回到母亲身边。

美国的南北战争也是影响狄金森创作的重大事件，由本诗可见，狄金森非常关心她的时代。过往研究中她深居简出的宅女印象是否过于简单肤浅？
