是把落日余晖洒在滩涂上的粼粼波光,比作有质感有份量的opal石(宝石行业称为欧泊)。</p><p class="ql-block">这个比喻既写出了霞光的璀璨珍贵,又带着一种“被卸下、被铺展”的厚重感,仿佛日落是一场盛大的卸货仪式。</p><p class="ql-block">日落时,光线穿过大气层,会呈现出从橙红到紫色的渐变,狄金森用它来描绘晚霞,极具画面感。</p><p class="ql-block">在西方文化中,紫色常与王权、神秘和高贵联系在一起。诗里的“purple traffic”(紫色的航船),将日落的霞光比作一支庄严的皇家船队,赋予了自然现象一种神圣而隆重的仪式感。</p> <p class="ql-block">这里的商人们是指远方海平线的海浪,带着(仙帆)晚霞沉入黑暗。这张是豆包生成的图,比较接近诗歌的意象。</p> <p class="ql-block">人类的马车、汽车无法踏上这条精神小径,而蜜蜂的“thrill”和蝴蝶的“cart”却可以轻盈地飞翔其上。</p><p class="ql-block">狄金森诗歌里的“vehicle”(交通工具)不仅指马车、汽车,也象征着人类社会的一切物质科技手段、物理逻辑和数字规则。诗人的叹息,表达了她对无法用世俗方式抵达那个纯粹精神世界的无奈与向往。</p> <p class="ql-block">奥斯丁和苏珊结婚后,搬到艾米莉家旁边的房子里。困在爱里面的诗人,仍将从前和密友苏珊每天散步的草径叫作“一条足够相爱的人同行的小路”。</p> <p class="ql-block">SUMMER SHOWER</p><p class="ql-block"> </p><p class="ql-block">A drop fell on the apple class="ql-block">doth 是古英语中 do 的第三人称单数现在时形式,相当于现代英语的 does。</p><p class="ql-block">在 Emily Dickinson 的诗歌中,这类古英语词汇(如 doth, hath, doth not)很常见,是为了营造古典、庄重的韵律感和诗意氛围。因此我尽量将原文翻译古雅一些,翻译风格向莎士比亚的译文偏向。</p> <p class="ql-block">democrat、litigants,都是诗人用当时的流行词汇在借喻,这些借喻也可以看做诗人的另一种思考答案。</p><p class="ql-block">democrat 并非指现代政治意义上的“民主主义者”,而是指这朵紫三叶草是平民之花,它不矜贵、不孤傲,平等地向所有昆虫(第一段的蜜蜂、蝴蝶、蜂鸟)敞开怀抱,分享花蜜。</p><p class="ql-block">同理,sweet litigants(温柔的诉讼者),把残酷的生存竞争写得优雅又充满生机,体现了自然万物在秩序中各安其位的和谐之美。</p> <p class="ql-block">Her public is the moon,</p><p class="ql-block">Her providence the sun,</p><p class="ql-block">Her progress by the bee proclaimed</p><p class="ql-block">In sovereign, swerveless tune.</p><p class="ql-block"> </p><p class="ql-block">The bravest of the host,</p><p class="ql-block">1979年,台湾音乐人陈贤德、张弼为《希望》谱曲,改名《兰花草》,由包美圣原唱,后经刘文正翻唱走红。</p>
