Dazed and half-asleep, I first mistook it for a hurricane, then an air-raid siren—fluctuating between loud and soft, urgent and slow, like fighter jets pressing down and making the earth tremble violently. I scrambled out of bed in panic, stumbled over my feet, and rushed out of the door. But just as I listened closely, it abruptly fell silent. It turned out to be someone’s soybean milk maker in operation! Though it was a false alarm, all my sleep was gone. Alas, could they start it a little later?</span></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p>
