This paper takes the zodiac paintings of painter Wang Shuhui (Yunlong), especially his representative work "Zodiac Family Portrait" series, as the research object, and analyzes their artistic charm from the perspectives of semiotics and cultural psychology. The study found that Wang Shuhui (Yunlong)'s zodiac paintings have successfully constructed an individual "self-mirror" through the triple dimensions of "symbolic association—emotional sustenance—spiritual reflection": zodiac symbols become the visual anchor of self-identity, artistic creation carries the externalization of individual emotions and expectations, and the philosophical connotations in the works guide viewers to conduct self-contemplation of survival wisdom. This research reveals the innovative transformation path of traditional zodiac culture in contemporary art and provides a new perspective for understanding the internal connection between intangible cultural heritage skills and individual self-realization.

Keywords

Wang Shuhui (Yunlong); Zodiac Paintings; Self-Mirror; Symbolic Meaning; Cultural Heritage

1. Introduction

The dragon is the spiritual totem of the Chinese nation, and zodiac signs are cultural identifiers closely bound to individual life. In contemporary art creation, zodiac paintings have become an important medium for individuals to express self-cognition and sustenance emotions. However, existing studies have paid insufficient attention to the in-depth connection between zodiac painting creation and individual "self" construction. Centered on the customized concept of "one household, one strategy", Wang Shuhui (Yunlong)'s zodiac paintings, especially his "Zodiac Family Portrait" series, deeply integrate traditional zodiac symbols with modern family life and professional characteristics, providing a typical case for studying the self-projection mechanism of zodiac paintings. This paper mainly discusses: How do zodiac paintings construct an individual's "self-mirror"? What are their symbolic logic and emotional mechanisms? What enlightenment does this practice have for the inheritance of traditional zodiac culture and individual self-realization?

2. Core of Artistic Charm

The charm of Wang Shuhui (Yunlong)'s zodiac paintings is rooted in his innovative interpretation of symbolic meanings and the diversified integration of expression forms. He endows traditional zodiac symbols with new connotations of the times, such as transforming the "dragon" into a warm role guarding the family in "Zodiac Family Portrait". At the same time, he skillfully combines intangible cultural heritage skills such as paper-cutting and Han Dynasty paintings with modern painting concepts, breaking the inherent mode of traditional zodiac paintings, making the works not only deeply rooted in cultural genes but also possess contemporary aesthetic taste.

3. Contemporary Value

Wang Shuhui (Yunlong)'s creative practice not only realizes the living inheritance of intangible cultural heritage skills and zodiac culture but also provides a unique platform for individuals to express themselves, fully reflecting the humanistic care of contemporary art. His influence has been solidified and extended through specific academic and physical forms: recently, his three art monographs, "Analysis of Han-Style Zodiac Techniques", "Comprehensive Analysis of Broad-Brush Techniques", and "Secrets of Zen One-Stroke Calligraphy and Painting", were published by Hong Kong Art Publishing House, systematically sorting out his artistic concepts and technique systems; at the same time, the "Yunlong Shuhui Broad-Brush Zodiac Painting Society" was officially established in Hong Kong, building an important platform for the dissemination and development of his art school. These initiatives not only make significant contributions to promoting traditional Chinese zodiac culture but also show the profound heritage and sense of responsibility of a contemporary powerful artist.

5.
