Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. <br>I had visited Vienna with my old classmates in 2016 and was profoundly impressed. But it was a short visit. This bustling street was actually a moat outside the city walls during Roman times. The Battle of Vienna in 1683 halted the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Central Europe. The Leopold Fountain was constructed between 1685 and 1690. The fountain is dedicated to the patron saint of Austria and Vienna, intended as a gratitude for divine protection and a plea for his continued safeguarding of the city from disasters such as war and plague. The sculpture atop the fountain is a standing statue of Saint Leopold, holding a banner and a model of a church, symbolizing his role as a ruler and defender of the faith. Emperor Leopold as a member of the Fraternity of the Holy Trinity had taken a vow to rebuild this church when Vienna was struck by the plague. In 1733, after the church was finished, it was consecrated to the Holy Trinity and Saint Peter. This former summer residence of the Habsburgs is renowned for its imperial ceremonial halls, magnificent gardens, and lavish villas. The former Café Dobner was a regular haunt of railway workers. During the Nazi era, it served as a meeting place for persecuted trade unionists and revolutionary socialists, especially railway workers, until May 1941. <br><br>In 1988/89, a faithful restoration, supported by the Vienna Old Town Preservation Fund, was carried out and the building was placed under monument protection.<br><br>Black marble tables with white veining, dark green plush upholstery in the seating niches, and brass chandeliers. Housed in its festive palatial building on Ringstraße, it is crowned with an octagonal dome. The term Kunsthistorisches Museum applies to both the institution and the main building. It is the largest art museum in the country.<br><br>The Ringstraße museum was commissioned by the Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary in order to find a suitable shelter for the Habsburgs’ formidable art collection and both museums opened to the public in 1891. The façade was built of sandstone. The building is rectangular in shape, and topped with a dome that is 60 meters high. It was also built by order of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I. The two museums are similar in appearance and face each other across Maria Theresa Square.<br>
