A woman has died after the group she was bushwalking with became overwhelmed by conditions at Cradle Mountain National Park in Tasmania.

一名女子在塔斯马尼亚摇篮山国家公园的丛林徒步旅行中，因所在团队遭遇恶劣天气而不幸身亡。

Police say rescuers camped with the group overnight on Friday, and the other members of the group were able to walk out on Saturday morning.

Tasmania Police was called on Friday afternoon after another walking party found a group of Chinese nationals — a family of three and a friend — in difficulty and suffering from the cold.

They had been on a day walk to Marion's Lookout.

Inspector Steve Jones said the group, while prepared for a day walk, was not prepared for the conditions they found themselves in and were "overwhelmed by the extreme weather".

Inspector Jones said that without the help of the other group and the help of a Parks and Wildlife ranger who was nearby and able to reach the group before rescuers, there could have been another two deaths.

He said the weather conditions meant the rescue helicopter could not be used, but a rescue party of police search and rescue officers, along with State Emergency Service, Parks and Wildlife Service and Ambulance Tasmania personnel, walked in late on Friday to find the group.

One of the group, a woman, died on Friday evening from suspected hypothermia.

Inspector Jones said the woman was a friend of the family she was walking with. The other members of the group, the family of three, were helped to walk out on Saturday morning.

"This is a tragic outcome for a group of visitors to Tasmania," he said.

ABC News: Good morning, I am Laura Bethes. A surgeon and volunteer says many bushwalkers enter Tasmania's remoteness without being properly prepared for unpredictable weather conditions.

Burke John reports: Police yesterday revealed that an overseas tourist died while walking with a group at Cradle Mountain on Friday. Tasmanian search and rescue volunteer Simon Kendrick says weather conditions can change rapidly. "It's very common for overseas visitors, mainland visitors, and even urban Tasmanians to get into trouble in the highlands," he says. He says the biggest danger is not taking adequate gear to stay warm and dry, and he warns that just researching a destination may not always be enough to guarantee safety. Police are reminding bushwalkers to also carry communication devices that work in remote areas.
