<p class="ql-block">What an exciting week it’s been at Little Dragon Chinese Summer Camp! Our students have been fully immersed in sports, Chinese classic story, English LA, LEGO, dance, and fun! </p> Basketball & Physical Training <p class="ql-block">Coach Ma asked students to do drills to help students have more efficient movement and excite skills with precision. She also led students to do physical training to let students develop better strength, agility, and endurance. </p> Chinese Language & Culture <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Chinese Classic Novel: Journey to the West 《西游记》</b></p> <p class="ql-block">This week, our students explored one of the classic Chinese novels: Journey to the West! They got to know the main characters and learned about the novel’s development, discovering how Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Monk, and Tang Monk bravely journeyed together across mountains and rivers to reach the Western Heaven and obtain the sacred scriptures.</p><p class="ql-block">We paid special attention to the character of Sun Wukong this week — from his miraculous birth to how he became a respected king who is a hero loved by millions of people. He was clever, courageous, and hardworking, spending years traveling over mountains and seas in search of masters to learn valuable skills and knowledge. These included the 72 Transformations, Cloud Somersault, immortality, Taoist magic, and martial arts.</p><p class="ql-block">Additionally, we enjoyed studying two famous episodes: “The Three Battles with the White Bone Demon” and “The Three Borrowings of the Banana Leaf Fan.” If your child likes, they can keep watching this story HERE. <a href="https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MmFBvH4RtZQ" target="_blank" style="font-size:18px;">网页链接</a></p> English Language Arts <p class="ql-block">We have three groups in the morning time. These younger students continued to work on their verbal reading skills along with more advanced rhyming words. We also started to practice our spelling for the words of numbers 1-10 and 1-20. </p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block">We not only read books and analyzed story elements, but decoded unfamiliar words and wrote these word. Besides, we tried to write complicated sentences and short stories. </p> <p class="ql-block">As doing exercise and narrative writing, we worked on using of capitalization, punctuation, verb tenses, and sentence structure. Of course, we read books! </p> <p class="ql-block">In the afternoon, older students split into two groups to competed in a week-long English activities for a special prize at the end of the week. They competed in spelling bees, Picture to Paragraph, and biography speeches.</p> LEGO <p class="ql-block">Our campers learned how to step by step working as teams to build up this Chinese architecture LEGO, Through this activity, they gained a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.</p> Dance Class <p class="ql-block">This week, our students learned their first hip-hop dance to the popular Chinese song “ 无感. They were guided by three teen instructors, each with around 10 years of dance studio experience. Even though they only practiced for about 30 minutes a day over four days, our campers had a blast—and gave it their all in their very first hip-hop performance!</p><p class="ql-block">Please enjoy their Dance here.
