K3 English Lesson Plan: Action, Vocabulary, Sight Words & Sentence Practice

Duration: 90 Minutes

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:* Participate in action songs to develop listening and motor skills.

* Identify common vegetables and use "This is..." and "These are..." sentences.

* Understand the concept of singular and plural nouns for animals.

* Recognize and use the sight words: "my," "do," "you," "and," "have," "like" in simple sentences.

* Read and understand simple sentences incorporating the target sight words.

Materials:

* Whiteboard and markers

* Book: "Vegetables" (or pictures of the specified vegetables)

* Book: "Nine" (or pictures of the specified animals.

Procedure:

I. Welcome & Action Songs (15 Minutes)

1. Welcome (2 mins): Greet students warmly.

2. Action Song 1: "Hurry Hurry Drive the Fire Truck" (7 mins):

* Introduce the song.

* Lead students in singing and performing the actions. Encourage enthusiastic participation.

3. Action Song 2: "Dance Freeze Party" (6 mins* Explain the rules: dance when the music plays, freeze when it stops.* Play the song and lead the activity.

II. Vocabulary & Book Review: "Vegetables" (20 Minutes)

1. Introduce/Review Vegetables (5 mins):

* Hold up the "Vegetables" book

* Point to each vegetable and say its name clearly.

* Ask students to repeat the names after you.

2. Sentence Practice: "This is..." / "These are..." (10 mins):

* Go through each specified vegetable, demonstrating the sentence structure.

* Teacher: (Points to a potato) "This is a potato."

* Students: "This is a potato."

* Continue for:

* "This is broccoli."

* "This is lettuce."

* "This is corn."

* "This is an onion."

* "This is cabbage."

* "These are carrots." (Emphasize "These are" for plural)

* "These are vegetables." (Emphasize "These are" for plural.3. Quick Check (5 mins):

* Hold up a vegetable picture and ask, "What is this?" or "What are these?"

* Encourage students to respond using the full sentences.

III. Number & Grammar: Book "Nine" (25 Minutes)

1. Read Book: "Nine" (15 mins):

* Introduce the book "Nine."

* Read the book aloud, clearly enunciating each animal and the number "nine."

* Teacher: "Nine cows." (Show picture)

* Teacher: "Nine bulls." (Show picture)

* Continue for: nine horses, nine pigs, nine geese, nine goats, nine chickens, nine sheep.

2. Singular vs. Plural Concept (10 mins):

* Teacher: "When we have one, we say 'cow'." (Show a picture of one cow)

* Teacher: "When we have many, like nine, we say 'cows'." (Show picture of nine cows)

* Repeat this concept for other animals from the book:

* Bull (one) / Bulls (many)

* Horse (one) / Horses (many)3.

IV. Sight Words Introduction & Practice (25 Minutes)

1. Introduce Sight Words (5 mins):

* Write the sight words clearly on the whiteboard: my, do, you, and, have, like.

* Point to each word, say it, and have students repeat it.2. Practice "My" (5 mins):

* Teacher: "Everyone stand up!"

* Teacher: "Point to your shirt and say, 'My shirt!'"

* Students: (Point) "My shirt!"

* Teacher: "Point to your shoes and say, 'My shoes!'"

* Students: (Point) "My shoes!"3. Practice "You" (5 mins):

* Teacher: "I need two friends to come to the front." (Select two students)

* Teacher: (To Student A) "Point to Student B and say, 'You are my friend!'"

* Student A: (Points) "You are my friend!"

* Teacher: (To Student B) "Now, you point to Student A and say, 'You are my friend!'"

* Student B: (Points) "You are my friend!"

* Teacher: (To the class) "Now, everyone point to me (the teacher) and say, 'You are my teacher!'"

* Students: (Point) "You are my teacher!"

4. Practice "And" (5 mins):

* Teacher: "I need two more friends." (Select two students, e.g., Andy and Shawn) * Andy: "Andy and Shawn."

* Teacher: "Great! Now, let's name some other friends using 'and'."

* Go around the room, having students name two classmates using "and" (e.g., "Joy and Yo-yo)

5. Practice "Do" (2 mins):

* Teacher: "Let's use 'do' in a question."

* Teacher: "Do you like yo-yo?" (Ask a student, encourage a yes/no answer)6. Practice "Have" (2 mins): (Say to a student * Teacher: "Do you have a toy?" (Ask another student)

* Ask students to point to something they have and say "I have a..."

7. Practice "Like" (1 min):

* Teacher: "I like cars." (Say it) * Ask students: "What do you like?" Encourage them to use "I like..."

V. Whiteboard Sentences & Wrap-up (5 Minutes)

1. Write and Read Sentences (3 mins):

* Write the following sentences on the whiteboard. Read each sentence clearly, pointing to the words as you read. Have students repeat after you 1. A ⛺️ and an ☂️.2. It is my 🧦. 3. You have a 🚐. 4. I have a 🦺. 5. You have my 🛋️ 6. I like my 👩‍🏫.

2. Quick Review & Praise (2 mins):

* Quickly go over the sight words .
