K3 English Lesson Plan: Winter & Getting Dressed Fun!

Time Allotment: 90 minutes

Theme: Seasonal Vocabulary (Winter) & Daily Routines (Getting Dressed), Sight Word Recognition

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

* Actively participate in English songs and movements.

* Recall and identify vocabulary related to winter.

* Identify and practice reading basic sight words.

* Read simple sentences using sight words and picture clues.

* Understand and use vocabulary related to getting dressed.

Materials:

* Whiteboard

* Markers

* Book: "Winter" (or pictures/flashcards representing the sentences)

* Book: "Getting Dressed" (or pictures/flashcards representing the sentences)

* Picture cards/emojis for: ⛺️ (tent), ☂️ (umbrella), 🧦 (socks), 🛋️ (couch/sofa), 👩‍🏫 (teacher)from the book

Procedure (90 Minutes):

1. Warm-up & Movement (15 minutes)

* Objective: Energize students and practice following actions.

* Activity:

* "Jump, Run, Shout" Song & Dance: Lead the students in singing and performing actions for "Jump, Run, Shout." Encourage big, energetic movements.

* "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" Song & Dance: Sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," touching the body parts as you sing. Start slowly, then speed up.

2. Review Book: "Winter" (15 minutes)

* Objective: Reinforce winter vocabulary.

* Activity:

* Book Review: Hold up the "Winter" book (or large pictures/flashcards).

* Sentence Reading: Read aloud each sentence clearly, pointing to the corresponding picture/word. Have students repeat after you, focusing on pronunciation.

* "The snow."

* "The sled."

* "The ice skates."

* "The mittens."

* "The coat."

* "The fire."

* "The snowman."

* "The winter."

* Quick Check: Ask students to point to specific items as you call them out (e.g., "Show me the snowman!").

3. Read Book: "Getting Dressed" (15 minutes)

* Objective: Introduce and practice vocabulary for daily routines.

* Activity:

* Book Reading: Read the "Getting Dressed" book. For each page, focus on the action and the clothing item.

* Sentence Practice: Read each sentence, demonstrating the action (e.g., pretending to put on shorts). Have students repeat the sentences.

* "I put on my shorts."

* "I put on my pants."

* "I put on my belt."

* "I put on my socks."

* "I put on my shoes."

* "I put on my glasses."

* "I put on my jacket."

* "I put on my backpack."

* Interactive Repetition: Ask students to mime putting on the clothes as they repeat the sentences.

4. Sight Words & Phonics Practice (20 minutes)

* Objective: Introduce and practice reading common sight words using phonetic awareness.

* Activity:

* Word Introduction: Write each sight word clearly on the whiteboard.

* Sounding Out & Reading: For each word, point to each letter and make its sound, then blend the sounds to read the whole word.

* "do" (d-o)

* "you" (y-o-u)

* "my" (m-y)

* "and" (a-n-d)

* "have" (h-a-v-e)

* "I" (I)

* "an" (a-n)

* "like" (l-i-k-e)

* Choral Reading: Have the whole class read each word together after you.

* Individual Practice: Call on each student to practice reading 2-3 words. Provide gentle correction and encouragement.

5. Picture & Sentence Reading (20 minutes)

* Objective: Combine sight words with picture clues to read sentences.

* Activity:

* Picture Review: Show the pictures/emojis one by one (⛺️, ☂️, 🧦, 🛋️, 👩‍🏫). Ask students to identify what each picture is.

* Sentence Construction & Reading: Write the following sentences on the board, leaving a space for the picture. Draw or paste the corresponding picture/emoji.

1. "It is my 🧦."

2. "I like my 👩‍🏫."

3. "I have an ☂️."

4. "I see a ⛺️."

5. "This is a 🛋️."

* Guided Reading: Point to each word and the picture as you read the sentence. Have students read along with you.

* Independent Reading: Call on individual students to read each sentence. Offer support as needed.

6. Wrap-up & Goodbye (5 minutes)

* Objective: Conclude the lesson and transition to the next activity.

* Activity:

* Quick Review: Quickly flash a few sight words or winter pictures and ask students to name them.

* Praise: Praise students for their hard work and participation.
