Breaking Through the Language Cocoon Embracing Wider

Worlds

---Speech at Last English Class in the Senior University

Distinguished teachers and dear classmates:

Hello everyone!

Standing here today, I am filled with both excitement and sentiment. From March 1st to June 17th, in these more than three months, I have experienced an unforgettable learning journey in the English classes at Fangzhicheng Primary School. It adds a significant touch to my retired life.Through wind and rain, braving the chill of spring and enduring the heat of early summer, every time I entered the classroom and saw Teacher Wang's encouraging smile, I knew that all my perseverance [ˌpɜːsəˈvɪərəns]was worthwhile.

During this period, Teacher Wang led us to integrate English learning into every aspect of our lives. I remember that during the first simulation of ordering food on an airplane, I was so nervous that I couldn't even tell "chicken" from "beef", and my voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzz. However, Teacher Wang patiently demonstrated, from intonation to gestures, teaching us hand - in - hand how to express ourselves with confidence. Later, we learned about airport boarding announcements, gate - change broadcasts, and even checked in at a "virtual airport" in English. Each practice made me feel one step closer to the real world.

Learning in real - life scenarios was even more interesting! In the "supermarket shopping" section, we bargained in English; in the "subway carriage", we practiced asking for directions and making station announcements; when entering the "restaurant", from "omelette" for breakfast to "spaghetti"for dinner, from "latte" at Starbucks to the details of ordering food over the phone, Teacher Wang led us to refine every dialogue again and again. The various ways to cook eggs broadened my horizons. What excited me the most was performing scene - based skits with my partner. Bai Hua and I performed an order - taking scene at a coffee shop. Teacher Wang and our classmates even filmed a video for us. These vivid practices made me no longer afraid to speak up and even dared to take the initiative to greet foreigners in English.

To record these growth moments, we also made short English - learning videos together. In the videos, there were the "embarrassingmoments" when we were fumbling to order food, as well as the moments when we high - fived each other after successfully completing a dialogue. These videos are not only mementos[mɪˈmɛntəʊz] but also a testament to our transformation from "dare not speak" to "speak boldly".

This learning experience has made me deeply understand that English is not just words and grammar in textbooks, but a key to unlocking the world. I would like to thank Teacher Wang for her meticulous guidance and my classmates for their mutual encouragement. In the future, I will continue to study with this enthusiasm and make English the "eyes" through which I view the world!

Thank you all!
