<p class="ql-block">Stanley Royle RBA, RCA ，1888年–1961年， English post-impressionist风景画画家和插图画画家，一生大部分时间都居住在 Sheffield (England)周边和Canada。他生在 Stalybridge, Cheshire，1904年在Sheffield Technical School of Art学习。 1908年拿到奖学金后继续在学校深造。最早受到老师Oliver Senior的影响，然后是 Anglo-Danish艺术家Sir George Clausen的影响。</p> <p class="ql-block">他的第一份工作是为当地报纸画插图。 1911年他开始在 UK展出作品。第一个成功是在1913年在 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition展出作品。其中就有： Spring Morning Amongst the Bluebells。1914年在Royal Academy办展。 1915年他的油画 Ploughing (A Fresh Morning: View of Mosborough from Renishaw) 在Royal Academy展出。 1916年他的两幅主要作品在 Royal Academy展出，并于1918年被选入Royal Society of British Artists (RSBA) 。1920年他成为全职RSBA会员，并在 Sheffield School of Art教书。1921年他创作了Morning on the Derbyshire Moors。 他创作的Spring Morning Amongst the Bluebells、 The Lilac Sun Bonnet和The Goose Girl都有一位女士做为作品主角。</p> <p class="ql-block">1922年他拿到当地艺术商人 Frederick Horner的订单，创作四幅大型 Sheffield主题油画: Sheffield from Mayfields、Sheffield from Wincobank Wood、 Sheffield from the Park、Sheffield from Crookes。它们成为 Museums Sheffield的收藏。 2005年其中一幅 Sheffield from Wincobank Wood 在Tate Britain's exhibition A Picture of Britain展出。</p> <p class="ql-block">1925年从RSBA辞职后，他被选入The Royal West of England Academy。他搬到Ecclesall附近 Park Head Crescent 新建的房子里， 1930年他成为 Sheffield Print Club合伙人。</p> <p class="ql-block">1930年到1931年他为 "Sheffield Independent" Newspaper做插图师 。他教 Elizabeth Styring Nutt 上课，她是加拿大 Principal of the Nova Scotia College of Art，每个夏天都会来 Britain，并说服他1931年12月移民到加拿大，在学校教书 。他在Nova Scotia School of Art 教书，一直到 1934年。他们回到 Britain和 Sheffield，但 1935年他回到 Nova Scotia 荣任 Director of the Owens Art Museum & College of Art, 第二年在Mount Allison University, Sackville of Fine Arts任首席教授，任期长达十年。 在他任职期间 Mount Allison university成为 Canada第一个有 Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) 学位的学校。 Art Gallery of Nova Scotia也是现今收藏他的作品最大的公共场所。 1936年他荣任 Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Academy， 1942年成为全职会员。</p> <p class="ql-block">他在 Canada期间，创作了Rocky Mountains和海岸线主题的作品。期间定期回Europe，创作了Isle of Sark、 Dorset和 Derbyshire风景画。1942年成为Royal Canadian Academy of Arts全职会员， 1945年和他妻子回到UK，住在他女儿在Suffolk那里，后搬到Nottinghamshire北部。</p> <p class="ql-block">1945年他和他妻子永久搬回。四十年代他在 Royal Academy展出作品。并荣任president of the Sheffield Society of Artists （1950年）。 Paris Salon授予他 Silver Medal （1951年） 和 Gold Medal （1955年）。 期间周游 Ireland、 Scotland、 Cornwall 和 Brittany 寻找创作灵感。其中39幅作品在Royal Academy展出。</p> <p class="ql-block">1961年他被诊断出肺癌，同年3月去世。 追思会在Worksop Priory, Nottinghamshire 举办，骨灰葬在当地墓地。</p> <p class="ql-block">1962年Graves Art Gallery、 Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust举办他的作品回顾展</p> <p class="ql-block">1989年Curator of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia馆长Patrick Condon Laurette出版了名为Stanley Royle (1888–1961)的书。第二本书讲述了他的人生和作品 （ 2008年），著书人 Timothy Dickson，由 Derwent-Wye Fine Art出版。其它出版物还有 Our Home and Native Land - Sheffield's Canadian Artists，1991年 Michael Tooby编著， Sheffield Arts Department with funding from the Arts Council出版。</p> <p class="ql-block">1995年他女儿Jean将她收藏的他父亲的作品捐献给 Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust。 其它收藏还有：Rotherham、Oldham、 Derby Art Gallery和 Glasgow Museum。 Graves Art Gallery于 2015年举办了他的画展。在Canada，他的作品被, National Gallery of Canada、Art Gallery of Nova Scotia，等收藏。</p>
