Lamego is roughly 12 kilometres from the banks of the Douro, it is a very ancient city. Lamego enjoyed a period of great prosperity in the eighteenth century when the city produced the so-called "fine wine" that later gave rise to the world-famous Port wine.

Since the 13th century, the ancient city gate, Lamego Se doorway, has protected two buildings standing on the top of the hill, the main city tower and an ancient castle dating back a hundred years earlier. 作为国家历史遗迹的拉梅戈城堡，巍然耸立于城墙环绕的山顶，这里是城市的发源地。

This is the most important archaeological site discovered in Lamego, illustrating the dynamic transformation of the city over more than two thousand years of its history. The museum staff warmly welcomed us and even specially reopened the normally closed rooftop terrace, allowing us to admire the panoramic view of Lamego's historic hilltop district.

Traveling with old buddies brought us extraordinary joy. We hiked to heights, full of vigour, and gazed into the distance - utterly carefree and happy, as if we've all regained our youth!

The Porta dos Figos gateway arch leads into the narrow streets of the inner town. Also found here is a somewhat unusual piece of history in the vaulted stone cistern dating back to times of Arab rule and bearing trademarks of master masons of the era.

The Church of the Convent of Santa Cruz, offering a delightful view over the city and the sumptuous and monumental baroque shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary, in the form of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. The status stands from her lofty position some 600 metres above the town.Each year, the city pays Our Lady much-deserved homage by devoting a festival to her - the splendid Romaria de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. 圣母圣殿内正在举行教皇方济各逝世仪式而对公众关闭。

The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios was closed to the public for a service dedicated to the death of the Pope Francis.

This chestnut tree had a perimeter of 0.06 meters in 1870 and reached 10.08 in 1967.
