They

compared images of toys and items they used

when they were younger with those they use

now. This hands-on task sparked thoughtful

discussions and helped theme reflect on how

much they’ve already grown!

Understanding Growing Up and Change

At the start of the unit, we explored what it

means to grow up and change!

We learned that growing up means getting bigger, stronger, and older, and one day, becoming an adult!

We also talked about change, which means to become different.

The children became familiar with the different stages of life: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and elderly. As well as the age groups these stages fall under!

To deepen their understanding, they played an engaging game where they organised picture cards to show the correct order of human growth. It was a fun and hands-on way to visualise how we all grow and change over time!

Guess Who? A Fun Look at How

We’ve Grown!

To spark even more curiosity and reflection, we played an exciting game called “Guess Who?” using baby photos of our very own K2C students!

We started with a baby photo, and the rest of the class had fun guessing who it might be. Then, we revealed more pictures of the same student at ages 1, 2, 3, 4, and finally at their current age—5 or 6 years old!

This activity brought lots of laughter and joy, while also making a big impact. It helped students clearly see how much people change as they grow, reinforcing their understanding of growth and development in a fun, meaningful way.

Ongoing Inquiry: Our Growth

Timeline Posters

As part of our ongoing exploration, the students began working on their very own Growth Timeline Posters!

In the first stage, they drew themselves as a baby, then as a toddler, and next as a child. Most recently, they used their imaginations to draw what they might look like as a teenager!

This creative project is a wonderful way for children to visualise how they grow and change over time. It’s not only helping them understand the stages of life—it’s also sparking their creativity and sense of identity as they express their journey through art.

Stage 1: Baby

Stage 2: Toddler

Stage 3: Child

Stage 4: Teenager

Only two more stages left of this project!

Drawing themselves as adults and as an elderly person… 😁

Kindergarten vs Primary School: What’s the Same and What’s Different?

We’ve recently begun an exciting inquiry into the similarities and differences between kindergarten and primary school using a Venn diagram.

To start, the students reflected on their current experiences and drew pictures of things they believe only happen or are available in kindergarten. Next, they will explore what they think is unique to primary school by creating new drawings. Finally, they will identify and illustrate what both settings have in common.

This visual and hands-on activity is helping students develop a clearer understanding of what lies ahead, supporting a smooth and confident transition into their next stage of learning!

Literacy Highlights: RAZ Reading, Jolly Phonics & Morning English Games

RAZ Reading:

K2C students have been making fantastic progress in their reading! Every morning, they come into the classroom excited and ready to dive into their RAZ decodable books. To further motivate and celebrate their efforts, we’ve introduced a RAZ Weekly Reading Chart. Students aim to read as many books as they can during morning time—and at the end of the week, those who show great effort and dedication receive a special surprise!

Jolly Phonics:

Our Jolly Phonics lessons have been a great success, with students showing strong development in writing, letter formation, and segmenting sounds. One of our favourite activities involves using individual whiteboards and markers for games like “Write the Tricky Word” or “Spell That Word”. These games not only bring lots of laughter and friendly competition, but also build confidence and a sense of achievement in their spelling skills.

Morning English Games:

Lately, our morning English games have focused on spelling and writing. Using picture cards, students first identify the image. If they’re unsure, the teacher provides the word aloud, and the challenge is to write it independently. For those needing support, we break down the sounds together. These games encourage phonetic awareness, risk-taking in writing, and lots of smiles to start the day!

We hope you’ve enjoyed following our learning journey in this unit so far, thank you for your continued support and interest.

✨ See you next time! ✨
