<p class="ql-block">The period of my company construction.</p><p class="ql-block">My company was one of China’s four national key projects at that time. It adopted an integrated model of refining – ethylene – downstream chemicals, which was quite advanced and ambitious for the country.</p><p class="ql-block">Over 20 major production units were introduced from Germany, the U.S., and Japan, while over 100 auxiliary systems were developed domestically. The complexity of this large-scale petrochemical base was unprecedented in China at the time.</p><p class="ql-block">We followed a “phased construction and rolling development” strategy: build one unit, start up one unit. The total investment across all three phases was about $0.55 billion USD, all from foreign capital. The first phase began in June 1984 and delivered qualified products by September 1987.</p><p class="ql-block">Since then, additional investments have been made, totaling US$13.55 billion.Over the years, more capital was added, and by 2023, the total asset value was estimated at around 20 to 30 billion dollars.</p> <p class="ql-block">I joined the company in 1987, and my plant was part of the second phase. Construction started in April 1986, equipment installation began in early 1988, and by December 1989, the entire production process was successfully connected. In January 1990, we achieved full production, meeting all technical standards.</p><p class="ql-block">When I arrived, the site was still just yellow earth. We reviewed technical documents in temporary offices, then went out to the field to check every valve, instrument, and pipe. I witnessed the factory rising from scratch—towers, tanks, pipe racks, buildings—all taking shape from the bare ground. It’s an unforgettable part of my life.</p><p class="ql-block">At the peak of construction, more than 30,000 workers were involved. Even today, about 12,000 employees are still working here. So it’s a large-scale operation with major investment, a big footprint, and strong employment.</p> <p class="ql-block">The view of my company now </p> <p class="ql-block">We occupy a huge area — around 1,500 hectares （Including 200 hectares of staff living area）— which is nearly four times the size of Stanley Park, and roughly equal to the combined area of UBC campus and Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver.</p> <p class="ql-block">The company’s wharf is located by the Yangtze River.</p> <p class="ql-block">This terminal is specifically designed for unloading crude oil from international oil tankers.</p> <p class="ql-block">The railroad platform </p> <p class="ql-block">Automobile canning </p> <p class="ql-block">Production operations,central control room.(Indoor operator)</p><p class="ql-block">When the factory was built, it was constructed by automatic instruments.</p><p class="ql-block">Now it is controlled by computers.</p><p class="ql-block">My first post was an Indoor operator.</p><p class="ql-block"></p> <p class="ql-block">Outdoor operator carry out the production instructions of indoor operators.</p> <p class="ql-block">Research and development of new processes and new products.</p><p class="ql-block"> This was my second post.</p> <p class="ql-block">In 1997, I began my career in technical management, and in 2002, I transitioned to administrative management, where I remained until my retirement.</p> <p class="ql-block">The staff living area and the park.The staff living area covers an area of 200 hectares.</p><p class="ql-block">There were two supermarkets, eight kindergartens, four elementary schools, one public security bureau, one junior high school, one senior high school ,one college ,a stadium with ten thousand people,a movie theatre and a park,a retired staff management center.</p><p class="ql-block">Now all of these are transferred to local areas for free.</p><p class="ql-block"></p><p class="ql-block"></p><p class="ql-block"></p> <p class="ql-block">At present, there is still two libraries, a 50,000-line program-controlled telephone and network company,and a staff hospital.</p> <p class="ql-block">And a bus company for picking up and dropping off staffs to and from work,there are currently 120 buses serving an average of 5,000 people per day.</p> <p class="ql-block">However, Now many employees commute by car, and the peak-hour lanes have been converted into tidal lanes.</p> <p class="ql-block">There are 9 kindergartens accepting children of employees.</p> <p class="ql-block">There are 4 elementary schools for employees' children.</p> <p class="ql-block">A middle school.</p> <p class="ql-block">A high school.</p> <p class="ql-block">stadium</p> <p class="ql-block">The text was written by me and the photos are from the company's official website.</p> <p class="ql-block">Postscript: These are just beautiful memories.
