爆竹声中一岁除，春风送暖入屠苏。

千门万户曈曈日，总把新桃换旧符。

When the last ray of the old year's afterglow disappears below the horizon, the first ray of the new year's dawn can't wait to shine on the earth.

当旧年的最后一缕余晖隐没于地平线之下，新年的第一缕曙光便迫不及待地洒向大地。

“元旦”，宛如赫然而起的金乌，宣告着新的开始。

“元” ，蕴含开始之意；

“旦”， 为象形字，上面的“日”代表太阳，下面的“一”代表地平线，意为太阳升起。

古人把“元旦”二字结合起来，引申为新一年开始的第一天。

In the Song Dynasty, two wooden boards made of peach wood, with the names of the two door gods Shen Tu and Yu Lei written on them, were hung on both sides of the door to drive away evil spirits and avoid disasters.

在宋代，民间还有更换桃符的习俗。即桃木制成的两块木板，上面分别写有神荼[shén tú]、郁垒[yù lěi]两位门神的名字，挂在门的两侧，可以驱邪避灾，守护家宅。
