He followed the sound and found that it was an old white-haired grandmother sitting in front of her house, grinding a thick and long iron pestle hard on a big stone.

他顺着声音找过去，原来是一位白发苍苍的老奶奶，正坐在家门口，拿着一根又粗又长的铁杵，在一块大石头上用力地磨着。

Li Bai felt very strange.

李白觉得很奇怪。

He went up and asked curiously, “Grandma, what are you doing?"

他走上前去，好奇地问：“老奶奶，您这是在干什么呀？”

The grandmother looked up, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and smiled and said, “Child, I'm grinding a needle."

老奶奶抬起头，擦了擦额头上的汗珠，笑着说：“孩子，我在磨针呢。”

Li Bai's eyes widened in surprise and he said, “How can such a thick iron pestle be ground into a needle? When will it be ground?"

李白瞪大了眼睛，惊讶地说：“这么粗的铁杵，怎么可能磨成针呢？这要磨到什么时候呀？”

The grandmother stopped what she was doing and looked at Li Bai lovingly and said, “Child, as long as I grind it every day and keep grinding, the iron pestle will gradually become thinner and finally it can be ground into a needle.

老奶奶停下手中的动作，慈爱地看着李白说：“孩子，只要我每天坚持磨，不停地磨，铁杵总会一点一点地变细，最后一定能磨成针的。

We should have perseverance in doing anything. As long as we persevere, there is nothing we can't do."

做任何事情都要有恒心，只要坚持下去，就没有做不成的事。”

Li Bai listened to the grandmother's words and thought to himself, “Grandma is so old and still has such perseverance and determination. Why should I give up because of a little difficulty?"

李白听了老奶奶的话，心里不禁暗暗地想：“老奶奶年纪这么大了，都有这样的毅力和决心，我怎么能因为一点困难就放弃呢？”

从那以后，李白仿佛变了一个人。

He no longer slacked off in his studies and studied hard every day.

他读书不再偷懒，每天都认真刻苦地学习。
