To get to Mt. Baldy, CJ, BK, Abedel, Jenna, and I, rode in coach K’s car. On the way there, CJ, BK, and I sat in the middle. Abdel sat in the very back. And Jenna sat in the front. This was the first time CJ and I met BK. The others had already meet him

While we were going up the mountain, we passed by a small town that reminded me of the town near Mammoth Mountain because they were both towns on the side of a mountain. Coach K said that she has seen bears in that town before rummaging through trash cans and running across streets. She also encountered a bear that ran right in front of her one night. All trash cans in the town have locks on them. Sadly, we didn’t see any bears that day. After we parked, and found the rest of our group, we started up the mountain.

Overall, its a mixed experience. I was nauseous and had a headache most of the hike. The devi; s backbone hike was scary. But I enjoyed meeting new friends, appreciated coach K’s support with crossing Devil’s backbone, had fun spending time with my friends and enjoyed a lots of yummy food from coaches and friends.

About 2 miles up, we stopped at the ski hut as it's called. It's just a small hut. Apparently, this was the first time it was open when coach K hiked here. We were allowed in. There was a nice person inside that said that he was volunteering to help hikers. The shed was nice. It had a kitchen and a sofa downstairs. According to someone who counted them, there are about 20 to 30 beds upstairs. One of the coaches brought banana bread to share. Coach K also got water from the mountain and filtered it for us to drink. The volunteer in the ski hut made sausages. CJ even let me permanently borrow his ice cream sandwich. I enjoyed eating food and exploring the house.

After we left the ski hut, I started to get headaches. About 4 miles up, we reached the top. At the top, there was a plaque that said the height of the mountain. The plaque said other things too but they are too boring to mention here. Coach K cut watermelons. Coach Tu shared spam musubi. The main thing was that we were so high that we couldn’t really see anything. Everything was a blue haze so the view coming up was better. On the way down, there was a part that was very narrow and slippery. So we were told to hug the mountain. I took that advice literally. I held onto the rocky mountain side with both hands.

Right after that was a part called The Devil’s backbone. It was a bit wider than the previous section but there was no mountain to hug, only steep cliffs on both sides. I was so terrified that I was mortally wounded. Coach K was behind me which made me feel safe. Another coach was in front of me and gave me tips on what to do and what to watch out for. While crossing it, I thought about how I had been inside the Devil’s Throat (a waterfall in Brazil. Iguazu Falls.) and now I am crossing the Devil’s backbone.

After that, we arrived at an extremely overpriced restaurant at about mile seven. The cheapest drink and burger combo cost $30. The food wasn’t bad. It was surprisingly fresh. After that, some people took the lift down while most of us walked down. Many were forced by coach K to walk. Me and a few others preferred to walk down anyway. After a while of walking, we got all the way down to the waterfall. We all took turns standing under the waterfall for a bit. It cooled me off and the headache finally went away. I felt relaxed after cooling down.

According to Coach K, we were the first group ever to walk 3 miles down to the waterfall with her after the long hike. After the waterfall, we walked the last half mile back to the car.

Once we got in the car, CJ, BK and I sat in the middle of the car. Abdel was in the front and Jenna sat in the back. About half way through the ride, I got nauseous so I got to go to the front. The rest of the ride was peaceful. We talked about movies and other random things. The ride was fun so it made the 1.5 hr ride home seem short.
