<p class="ql-block">Every Wednesday, we take a group photo. Campers get their Little Dragon t-shirts. We hope to capture the happy face of each camper and to hold wonderful moments longer. Since our topic is kid’s theater, we use more videos and photos to show the achievements of our campers. </p> Basketball <p class="ql-block">Our basketball class allows children to master basketball skills in a friendly environment, improve their physical fitness, promote their physical development, and foster a healthy balance lifestyle. </p> Chinese Language Arts <p class="ql-block">At the beginning of this week, we explored the renowned picture book "The Three Robbers." In addition to studying the author’s background and appreciating the artistic design of the book, students became familiar with the core storyline and essential vocabulary. We also engaged in discussions surrounding important philosophical questions that arose during the story, including: Is a "good" person always wholly good? Is a "bad" person always wholly bad? What defines a “real person” in reality? Do criminals deserve a second chance? How can we use our wealth in a way that enriches ourselves and positively impacts our community? </p> <p class="ql-block"><span style="color:rgb(57, 181, 74);">Special thanks to Sha Laoshi and Zheng Laoshi!</span></p> <p class="ql-block">Later this week, students began utilizing the concepts they learned to create their own stories and practice acting them out. You can find the script draft link, produced by students in grades 3 to 5. We happily invite you to explore their creative stories and, if time allows, enjoy the videos showcasing their impressive work. The children have all done an exceptional job!</p> English Language Arts <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group A</b></p> <p class="ql-block">As usual, we chose 3 books to read-aloud to begin the day. After that was creative time, where we did some coloring and drawing, and during that time, I pulled students out one by one to have them try to read simple elementary books aloud to me and help guide them along.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group B</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We were going through short stories that focused on how to pronounce certain sounds. We also answered questions at the end of each story. We also did some passsage reading where we answered multiple choice questions</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group C</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We learned a variety of different English skills to further improve and help them in school for their homework and academics. Along with learning more complex grammar and spelling,the students also read complexreading material and did practice tests to better gauge and improve their understanding.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group D </b></p> <p class="ql-block">We learned many essential English skills to further excel in academics and schoolwork. Together, we learned basic grammar skills, expanded their vocabulary to more difficult words, and used creativity to write imaginative short stories that capture their creative minds.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group F</b></p> <p class="ql-block">Students worked on reading skills this week as we read a new story every day. They challenged themselves with new vocabulary words and reading comprehension questions. </p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Group G</b></p> <p class="ql-block">On Monday, we hosted a spelling bee, with 7th grade level words. On Tuesday, we worked on stories based off prompts I give. On Wednesday, we made How-to books explaining how to get ready for the first day of school. On Thursday, we analyzed an excerpt from Hamlet, the most challenging activity. And on Friday, we wrote persuasive essays on our favorite subjects.</p> Chess <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Instructions </b></p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Scaffolding </b></p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Open Bouting </b></p> Art <p class="ql-block">We experience Chinese traditional culture via art. </p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Day 1</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We talked about a famous trade route, Silk Road, in ancient China. Silk Road got its name because was a key commodity transported in the route. The children created silkworms using white clay.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Day 2</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We discussed steamed buns and bamboo steamers. The children drew steamers and designed their own animal-shaped buns.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Day 3</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We focused on the Wadang, ornamental roof tiles wadang, used in ancient Chinese architecture. The children observed real examples of Wadang and then carved them into foam board, printing the designs onto colored paper with black ink.</p> <p class="ql-block" style="text-align:center;"><b>Day 4</b></p> <p class="ql-block">We learned about the significance and symbolic meaning of persimmons in Chinese culture.
