On January 7th, 1935, the Red Army captured Zunyi on the way to the Long March. The Kuomintang（国民党） hurriedly transferred troops（调兵） and fortified（增强） the Loushanguan area. In order to ensure that the central government establishes a new strategic base（战略根据地） in Zunyi, and ensure the safety of the Zunyi meeting, the Central Military Commission（中央军委） ordered the Fourth Regiment of the Second Division of the Red Army Corps to pursue enemy and seize the Loushanguan.

Why did they want to seize Loushanguan ?

Loushanguan, also known as Louguan and Taipingguan, is the main peak of the Dalou Mountain Range, with an altitude of 1,576 meters. There are thousands of peaks（山峰） in Loushanguan, heavy cliffs overlap（重叠）, and the cliffs stand absolutely. It looks like an axe（斧） and a halberd（戟）, it goes straight into the sky, and the Sichuan-Guizhou Highway hovers over it. It is known as "if one man guards the pass, ten thousand cannot get through", and it has been called the first dangerous pass in northern Guizhou since ancient times.

  娄山关（Loushanguan)又名娄关、太平关，是大娄山脉的主峰，海拔1576米，娄山关上千峰万仞重崖叠峰，峭壁绝立,若斧似戟，直刺苍穹，川黔公路盘旋而过，人称黔北第险要，素有“一夫当关，万夫莫开”之说,自古被称为黔北第一险隘,历来为兵家必争之地。

Process

At the beginning of January 1935, the Central Red Army broke through the natural barrier of Wujiang River in three ways from south to north.

On January 6, the Red Army vanguard troops(先头部队)entered Zunyi City to conduct reconnaissance(侦察）on the enemy situation in Loushanguan.

On January 9th, the 4th Regiment （团）departed from Banqiao. The Red Army braved the bullets and occupied the pass, and the battle at Loushanguan was a complete victory.

On January 10th, the Red Army fought fiercely with two enemy regiments in the new station for a whole day and repelled the enemy in Sichuan.

On January 11th, Songkan（松坎） was occupied, and the Red First Division and the 10th Regiment formed the northern defense（防线） line of Zunyi.

On February 25th, the Red Army fought fiercely with the enemy for the pass, and finally wiped out（歼灭） four regiments and two divisions of the enemy.

The result of the battle: more than 600 people were annihilated（歼灭） in Guizhou, and more than 100 people were killed or injured in the Red Army, achieving the first great victory since the Long March of the Red Army.

1935年1月初，中央红军由南向北分三路突破乌江天险。 

1月6日，红军先头部队进入遵义城，对娄山关敌情进行侦察。

1月9日，四团由板桥分道出发。红军冒着枪林弹雨，占领关口，最后红二师师部进占桐梓，娄山关战斗大获全胜。

1月10日，红军在新站与敌部两个团激战一整天，并击退川敌部。

1月11日进占松坎，红一师与第十团亦从遵义赶到，组成了遵义的北面防线。

2月25日凌晨，红军与敌军为争夺关口展开激战，最后歼灭敌军四个团，两个师。

战斗结果：黔军被歼灭600余人，红军伤亡100余人，取得红军长征以来的首次大捷。

Meaning

More than 600 people were annihilated（歼灭） in Guizhou, and more than 100 people were killed or injured in the Red Army, achieving the first great victory since the Long March of the Red Army, which makes a great contribution to having the Zunyi Meeting.

攻占娄山关一战，黔军被歼灭600余人，红军伤亡100余人，取得红军长征以来的首次大捷，为遵义会议的召开作出了重要贡献。
