Spring Festival Couplets</p><p class="ql-block">M: The Spring Festival Couplets, also called door couplets are used to express good wishes of the New Year.</p><p class="ql-block">Usually we buy the door couplets from the store. But today we will write couplets on our own. Traditional couplets are done with ink and brush.</p><p class="ql-block">Irene's mommy prepared black ink and red paper for us. Because couplets are always written in black ink on red paper, which is bright and elegant[ˈelɪɡənt](优雅的).</p><p class="ql-block">You can choose your favorite lines then we will write them together. As for the contents, most people will choose to express the auspiciousness and wishes for the coming year.</p><p class="ql-block">Finished! We can paste them on the two sides of the doors. Pasting couplets is not an easy job. Usually, they should be pasted before New Year’s Eve, and the best time is between 13:00 and 15:00 on the 29th of lunar December.</p><p class="ql-block">The correct pasting order is: upper scroll → lower scroll → horizontal scroll. You can distinguish the upper and lower scrolls from the writing order of the horizontal scroll.</p><p class="ql-block">2. Fu Characters</p><p class="ql-block">M: We will write fu character too.</p><p class="ql-block">The Fu characters are also essential Chinese New Year decorations. The Fu character in Chinese means ‘blessing’ and ‘good fortune’ .</p><p class="ql-block">We are done! We should paste it upside down on the door because the inversion in Chinese called “dao” has the same pronunciation with the ‘coming’ in Chinese.</p><p class="ql-block">An inverted Fu character means the good fortune is coming.</p><p class="ql-block">3. Red envelope</p><p class="ql-block">M: Do you like money? What would you like to buy with money? During spring festival you can get much money from red envelop.</p><p class="ql-block">Red envelopes, also known as lucky money, are money wrapped in red paper by adult for children. During the Spring Festival, red envelopes given by elders to younger generations after 0 o 'clock on New Year's Eve are called "Lucky money", which means to bring them good wishes and good luck in the New Year.</p><p class="ql-block">Would you like mommy and daddy to bring you good wishes and good luck? You can make your own red envelop. Paper Cutting</p><p class="ql-block">M: Baby, the Chinese new year is coming.</p><p class="ql-block">Paper cutting is one of the most popular decorative Chinese handicrafts. It’s a folk art to cut(民间艺术)paper with scissors or cutting knife.</p><p class="ql-block">How about making some handicrafts related to the Chinese new year?</p><p class="ql-block">宝贝,新年到了,咱们来做一些和新年有关的手工怎么样?</p><p class="ql-block">Today,mum will teach you to make a handwork of spring characters. Chinese Red Lanterns</p><p class="ql-block">M: Chinese red lantern now has been one of the symbols of Chinese culture. It’s a necessary decoration in the Chinese New Year.</p><p class="ql-block">The red lanterns will be hung in streets, shops, parks, and private households across the country as the New Year is coming.</p><p class="ql-block">We will make a red lantern too. Because on New Year’s Eve, We will hang it in front of our door. It can light not only the dark night but also the hope of the coming year.</p> <p class="ql-block">四、Making Dumplings(包饺子)</p> <p class="ql-block">The most important food during Chinese New Year is the dumplings.Because their shape looks like the monetary ingots(金元宝) used in ancient times, dumplings are believed to bring wealth in the coming year. </p><p class="ql-block">春节期间最重要的食物是饺子。因为它们的形状看起来像古代使用的货币锭,饺子被认为在新的一年带来财富。</p><p class="ql-block">Chinese people like eating dumplings, jiao zi, for their delicious taste and auspicious meanings. </p><p class="ql-block">中国人喜欢吃饺子 饺子味道鲜美 有着吉祥的寓意。</p><p class="ql-block">Jiao zi are made of meat and vegetable filling, and enclosed in a pastry shaped like a half moon. </p><p class="ql-block">饺子是用面皮裹住肉和蔬菜混合的馅料包裹成半月形。</p><p class="ql-block">They are boiled in water and eaten with sauces like vinegar.</p><p class="ql-block">用水煮熟配上醋等调料来吃。</p><p class="ql-block">There are hundreds of fillings with different flavours. </p><p class="ql-block">中国的饺子有几百种馅料各具风味。</p><p class="ql-block">The shape of jiao zi looks like the ancient currency of China called yuan bao. </p><p class="ql-block">因为饺子的形状很像中国古代的货币 元宝。</p><p class="ql-block">People eat dumplings on the Chinese New Year wishing they will earn more money in the coming year. </p><p class="ql-block">所以人们在过年的时候吃饺子象征着这个家庭在新的一年有更多的收入。</p><p class="ql-block">There are many steps to make jiao zi.</p><p class="ql-block">饺子有很多道制作工序。</p><p class="ql-block">People even like to put a coin into one jiao zi and anyone who gets this coin will be lucky in the coming year. </p><p class="ql-block">人们还会再某一个饺子中包进一枚硬币而吃到这个饺子的人在新的一年里会有好运气。</p><p class="ql-block">Making jiao zi together with the whole family creates a unique, harmonious atmosphere. </p><p class="ql-block">全家一起包饺子,营造出一种独特、和谐的氛围。</p><p class="ql-block">Chinese believe that a hot bowl of jiao zi is full of the family's love and affection.</p><p class="ql-block">在中国人心中那一碗热气腾腾的饺子就是家的味道。</p><p class="ql-block">按包饺子基本顺序来:</p><p class="ql-block">调馅儿——和面——擀皮儿——包——煮</p><p class="ql-block">You could choose any fillings you like.</p><p class="ql-block">First , you should chop up the raw material of the filling as fine as possible , then mix them with oil and other flavouring.</p><p class="ql-block">做馅(make the filling/stuffing)</p><p class="ql-block">原料(ingredients)可以有多种选择或混合,主要是猪肉(pork)和白菜(cabbage),还有调味品葱(scallion)和姜(ginger)</p><p class="ql-block">The classic ingredients for making dumplings include pork and cabbage. 包饺子的传统原料包含猪肉和白菜</p><p class="ql-block">怎样做馅呢?</p><p class="ql-block">cut the cabbage into shreds 把白菜切成细条</p><p class="ql-block">put the cabbage shreds in a bowl with minced pork 把白菜条和肉末放到碗里</p><p class="ql-block">use a microplane to grate into the ginger 用microplane磨生姜</p><p class="ql-block">mix all the ingredients until they are well-combined 搅拌所有原料直到它们合并在一起</p><p class="ql-block">注:</p><p class="ql-block">shred 细条</p><p class="ql-block">minced pork 猪肉末</p><p class="ql-block">grate(动词)磨碎</p><p class="ql-block">和面 (make the dough) 和擀面皮(roll up the dumpling skin/wrapper)</p><p class="ql-block">mix the flour with water to make the dough 面粉和水混合做面团</p><p class="ql-block">注:flour(发音同flower)面粉</p><p class="ql-block">dough 面团</p><p class="ql-block">roll up the skin/wrapper 擀饺子皮</p><p class="ql-block">注:skin/wrapper 饺子皮 </p><p class="ql-block">Gradually add the required amount of water into the basin with flour while stirring with a clean spoon. Mix until thickened(thick-thicken-thickened). Cup your hand into the shape of a small bowl.</p><p class="ql-block">拿一张饺子皮,放在手里,手心弯曲成小碗的形状。</p><p class="ql-block">2.Scoop some filling and put it in the center of the wrapper. Press it down gently to make sure the filling stays in the center.</p><p class="ql-block">用勺子取一点儿馅儿放在饺子皮中央,轻轻压实,把馅儿固定住。</p><p class="ql-block">3.Fold the wrapper in half and pinch the middle together. Then pinch from one end to the other. </p><p class="ql-block">把饺子皮对折,先把正中间捏在一起固定住,然后从饺子的一端捏到另一端。</p><p class="ql-block">4.Place the dumplings on the floured chopping board. </p><p class="ql-block">把包好的饺子放在撒有面粉的案板上。</p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block">【煮饺子:Cooking Dumplings】</p><p class="ql-block">1.Fill the pot with half full water.</p><p class="ql-block">把锅里接半锅水。</p><p class="ql-block">2.Put the pot on the stove and turn on the gas.</p><p class="ql-block">把锅放在灶上,拧开火。</p><p class="ql-block">3.When the water boils and bubbles break on the surface, we can put in the dumplings. </p><p class="ql-block">水开了冒泡泡的时候,就可以把饺子下进去了。</p><p class="ql-block">4.As soon as the dumplings go into the water, we need to stir it with the back side of the ladle gently. </p><p class="ql-block">饺子下水后,要马上轻轻用勺背搅拌。</p><p class="ql-block">5.When the boiling water is about to overflow, we can add some cold water and continue to stir. Sugar painting is a traditional Chinese form of folk art. Hot liquid sugar or caramel is used to create two-dimensional figures like small animals. Sugar art is pretty popular with children, but it’s beautiful enough to intrigue just about anyone.</p><p class="ql-block">Well, let me introduce you to the traditional Chinese form of art known as sugar painting or 糖画!</p><p class="ql-block">The background of sugar painting糖画的由来</p><p class="ql-block">The art of sugar painting is said to go back around 400-600 years ago to the time of the Ming dynasty, when sugar figures were made in molds as part of a sacrifice in religious rituals. Sugar tiger, sugar lion or figures of ministers were sacrificed to gods and ancestors in Royal Court in Ming Dynasty. Then the handicraft spread in the folk and evolved into sugar painting gradually.</p><p class="ql-block">据说糖画的艺术可以追溯到大约400-600年前的明朝时期,当时糖塑是在模具中制作的,这是宗教仪式中祭奠的一部分。在明代皇室祭祀中供奉神灵和祖先。然后手工艺品在民间传播,并逐渐演变成糖画。</p><p class="ql-block">Cai Shu quan, born in a sugar painting aristocratic family in Sichuan province perform sugar painting show in metropolis at home even go abroad such as Japan, Germany, Spanish, Singapore and so on.</p><p class="ql-block">蔡树全,出生于四川省的一个糖画贵族家庭,在国内大都市里进行糖画表演,甚至在日本,德国,西班牙,新加坡等国都表演过。</p><p class="ql-block">Folk story about Sugar Painting 糖画的传说故事</p><p class="ql-block">According to the memory of the old artists Shiyun Bai, Yongcheng Li and Deran Fan, in Tang Dynasty, great poet Ziang Chen born in Chengdu preferred to saccharose with another different way from other people. Firstly, he made the saccharose melt, then molded all kinds of patterns of animals and flowers on a smooth and clean table. After the solidification, he ate them while viewing.</p><p class="ql-block">(关于糖画,还有一个更加生动有趣的民间故事。)根据(糖画老艺人)白世云、樊德然、黎永成的记忆,唐代出生于成都的伟大诗人陈子昂更喜欢与其他人不同的方式吃糖。首先,他将蔗糖融化,然后在光滑整洁的桌子上塑造出各种动物和花朵的图案。待凝固后,一面赏玩一面食用,自觉雅趣脱俗。</p><p class="ql-block">Some day, Ziang Chen was admiring his own workmanship. The little crown prince saw these animals when passing, so he asked for some. When back to the palace, the sugar was eat up, the little crown prince was crying for more, which bothered the emperor. So Ziang Chen was called up into the palace and performed the handicrafts on the spot.</p><p class="ql-block">clear</p><p class="ql-block">有一天,陈子昂很欣赏自己的做工。小皇太子路过时看到了这些动物(糖画),所以向他要了一些。回到宫殿时,糖被吃光了,小王储又哭了,这困扰了皇帝。于是,陈子昂被召入皇宫,并要他当场表演手工艺。</p><p class="ql-block">Ziang Cheng shaped the melt saccharose into a copper cash, immediately, the little crown prince got tears away and smiled. The emperor was happy to promote Ziang Chen as You Shiyi (an official name in Tang Dynasty). After Ziang Chen retired, in order to reward the emperor’s patronage, he took somebody as his apprentices to pass on the technique. It is reviewed as both sugar and panting to view or eat. It can be seen whenever on temple fair, market fair or in park. Sugar painting is a kind of folk traditional handicrafts, especially prevailing in northern China. </p><p class="ql-block">顾名思义,糖画是由糖制成的。它既是糖又是画,能看也能吃。在庙会,集市或公园里都可以看到它。糖画是一种民间传统手工艺品,在中国北方尤为流行。</p><p class="ql-block">Sugar painting can be found in various areas of China, but is typically found around the Sichuan Province.</p><p class="ql-block">糖画可以在中国的各个地区找到,但通常在四川省附近可以找到。</p><p class="ql-block">How do the artist make the sugar painting? 如何做糖画</p><p class="ql-block">Painting on a canvas is very different from painting with sugar, so when I first saw sugar painting in action, I was amazed at the precision and detail of each painting.</p><p class="ql-block">在画布上绘画与用糖绘画有很大不同,因此当我第一次看到糖绘画在活动中时,我为每幅绘画的精确度和细节感到惊讶。</p><p class="ql-block">Although there are varying techniques to this craft, most artists use a ladle to drizzle hot sugar onto a flat slab as an outline of a figure. Then, a small spoon is used to drizzle sugar in order to produce intricate patterns such as swirls or zig-zags. A wooden stick is used to hold the figure and a spatula-like tool removes it from the surface, fresh and ready to serve to an enthusiastic child. The liquid sugar falls down as a thin thread onto the “paper” from the slanting spoon. After a short while, a plane animal is created. Then the painter separates the painting from the marble with a shovel, puts a wooden prod on the painting, and gives it to the kid. First, since the liquid sugar could freeze solid if it cools, the painter has to produce the work very quickly. Every time when we go out to play, when you see some artists making sugar painting, you always ask mummy or daddy to buy one for you.</p><p class="ql-block">M: I have bought a set of sugar-painting tools from internet. We can make sugar paintings by ourselves. Are you happy?</p><p class="ql-block">B: I'm so happy. I can't wait to do it now.</p><p class="ql-block">M: First, let's open the box and have a look what we need.</p><p class="ql-block">M: This is the pen and this is the adapter(适配器). Here are some malt[mɔːlt](麦芽糖) sugar sticks and easy drawings.</p><p class="ql-block">B: Mommy, what's this?</p><p class="ql-block">M: This is the silicon[ˈsɪlɪkən] pad(硅胶垫) on which we can draw the sugar painting.
