<p class="ql-block">As we come to the end of our second week in Little Dragon Summer Camp, it is a good time to reflect on what we have achieved and look forward to seeing you in other weeks!</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Morning Meeting </b></p> <p class="ql-block">When doing morning meetings, we used fun and engaging greetings. It was helpful to set the tone for the rest of the class meeting and school day.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Chinese Language Arts </b></p> <p class="ql-block">Environmental protection have gained immense prominence today. As adults, most of us understand the profound impact of reusing, recycling, and take actions . Yet, what about our children who are the future? Can we inspire them to make positive impact while fostering a love for nature and our planet? With the careful planning, we talk content in the sequence: bodies of water (Monday), landforms (Tuesday), water conservation(Wednesday), land conservation and composting (Thursday). In the last day of this week, students designed posters and presented it to promote water and land conservation. </p><p class="ql-block"><br></p><p class="ql-block"><br></p> <p class="ql-block">Playdoh was used for providing hands-on experiences for learners to explore the major body of water.</p> <p class="ql-block">Students played a match game (visuals, vocabulary, and descriptions) to practice thinking about the concepts of landform.</p> <p class="ql-block">After grasping the basic concepts about body of water and landform,we read books and discussed about conservation and composting.&nbsp;</p> <p class="ql-block">On Friday, students went to the Maple Grove library. With all teachers’ and volunteers’ support and assistance, they designed posters to promote water and land conservation. During the process, they learned searching information online and communicating with each other. Later, they did a quick presentation in the class. </p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">English Language Arts </b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Group A </b></p><p class="ql-block">We focused on syllables/parts of sentence, vowels/magic “E”, and spelling. Everyone picked up on the content fairly quickly and most understood the lessons. All of them participated actively in class and did great when quizzed.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>Group B</b></p><p class="ql-block">Every day this week, the students read a new story from Grimms’ Fairy Tales. We covered Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Brother and Little Sister, and more. Students worked on interpreting the main idea of each story we read. They continued to expand their vocabulary and spell out new words they encountered. Students challenged themselves with writing summaries of the stories, combining their text interpretation skills with their writing and spelling skills.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>Group C</b></p><p class="ql-block">This week we read various short passages to work on our literary comprehension and summary skills. We learned the three main structural parts to a sentence and other grammatical terminology. Students applied the most important rules for these techniques as well as expanded their new vocabulary reservoir in their notebooks.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>Group D </b></p><p class="ql-block">This week, students learned about figurative language and the literary devices of simile, metaphor, personification, and idiom. We worked on identifying examples of these literary devices in various texts and interpreting the meaning of each example beyond the literal sense. We read multiple poems this week, and with each poem, students worked on identifying rhyme schemes and structures. Students’ writing this week included their summaries and opinions on the poems we read, and later in the week, students wrote their own poems and creative stories.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Sport-Basketball </b></p> <p class="ql-block">Children were taught carefully to use the correct skills for passing, shooting and layups. Students were put in different groups to practice their skills accordingly. Games were necessary to let the students have fun with basketball and to improve their skills. As students dived deeper into basketball where friendships are formed, endurance is built, and lessons are learned.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b>Activity Center</b></p> <p class="ql-block">Our activity center is composed of two parts, math differentiated group and free choice time. students are responsible for completing math and one more tasks at activity center everyday.</p><p class="ql-block">Since we have students with diverse backgrounds, teachers/helpers used different techniques, strategies, and adaptations to reach all our learners and make mathematics accessible to every single one. Our students work hard on math learning. We also let students be active participants in choosing how and what they learn/play. Our classroom was filled with laughter, lightness and joy.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">History </b></p> <p class="ql-block">We covered several notable parts of Chinese history in conjunction with four great interventions in ancient China. On Monday, we talked the Qin dynasty and the Terra Cotta Warriors, as well as the gun powder that was first discovered by alchemists who were commanded to develop elixir for the emperor. On Wednesday, we introduced the intervention in Song Dynasty, the <span style="font-size: 18px;">movable type. Students experienced it by matching oracles with contemporary Chinese characters. On Thursday, interweaving with </span>the story, Zheng He’s voyage, in Ming Dynasty, we discussed the usage and the history of compass. Following that, students made compasses.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Chemistry- Color of World </b></p> <p class="ql-block">This week, we explored the chemistry behind color, filled with engaging hands-on experiments! We started the week by introducing how we see color through dyes and light before examining special fluorescence properties under UV light. Afterwards, we learned about color changes from acid-base pH and oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions.</p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Music/Dance Center</b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Duck Feeding </b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">In the Maze </b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">In the Swimming Pool </b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Lunch &amp; Snack </b></p> <p class="ql-block"><b style="font-size: 20px;">Break Time </b></p>
