Taboos in Islam

· connotation of Islam is very extensive. The ideological principles and norms of behavior advocated by Islam in various aspects such as theological belief, political opinion, economic thought, moral code, life style and family combination have a profound influence on every Muslim or every nation that believes in Islam.

· There are many taboos in Islam in religion, food, clothing, hygiene, marriage, funeral, commerce, interpersonal communication and spiritual life.

I. belief taboo:

The belief that God is unique is a tenet of Muslims, who worship no idols but Allah. Do not mold, shape, or draw images of any living creature (including human beings). Therefore, it is difficult to see other drawings in Islamic architectural art and art works, only some plants and geometric figures.

II. Dietary taboos: The problem of diet occupies a very important position in people's life. Islam holds that Allah created the universe, created man, created for man everything on earth for his enjoyment, and allowed him to eat all lawful and good food. The Koran says: "O men, eat of what is lawful and good in the land, and do not follow in the footsteps of Satan; he is an enemy to you."

Clothing taboos Since Islam believes that Allah created all the earth for mankind, it allows and requires all Muslims to make the most of the earth's materials to decorate themselves with beauty and dress. For it is like the enjoyment of all the good food created by Allah, which is the acceptance of Allah's blessings. Only by accepting and enjoying all that Allah has given, can one feel Allah's mercy to mankind. "Therefore, no one but Allah has the right to restrict Muslims from dressing themselves in the costumes created by Allah. The basic principle of Islamic dress is to follow nature, not to pursue luxury, and to pay attention to simplicity, cleanliness and beauty. Among the taboos are:

1. Forbid men to wear noble clothes;

2. Women are forbidden to show their beauty and makeup;

4. It is strictly prohibited for men to wear gold ornaments;

IV. Health and Sexual Taboos

1、 Hygiene habits: Islam is a religion that emphasizes hygiene. The Koran says: "Allah loves to be clean. "The Prophet also raised the spirit of purity to the height of faith, Muhammad. "Islam has given religious significance to these health requirements and integrated them into people's daily lives, and permeated the details of their lives, encouraging them to take them seriously and to comply with them.

2、 Hygiene and sexual taboos. Islam not only pays attention to the physical hygiene of a person who bathes and cleans his body, but also attaches great importance to the hygiene of his sexual life. Therefore, Islam actively promotes healthy and legal marriage between men and women, and prohibits illegal sexual relations such as cohabitation and fornication. At the same time, in order to prevent confusion about immoral phenomena, such as blood and incest, Islam also establishes certain taboos in marriage: 1、 It is forbidden to marry people who have close blood relationship, kinship, marriage and milk relationship. 2、 It is forbidden to marry foreigners. 3、 It is forbidden to marry a married woman; 4、 Divorce is strictly forbidden.

VI. Funeral taboos The basic principles of Islam are burial, thin burial and quick burial. Since Islam holds such a claim on death and burial, it is opposed to ideas, rituals, and customs that contradict it, thus creating many taboos in this regard:

1、 Prohibit noise;

2、 Prohibition of funerals at sunrise, sunset and noon;

3、 It is forbidden to stand for the funeral of the suicide;

4、 No crying;

5、 Women are prohibited from attending funerals;

6、 It is forbidden to set up spiritual places to pray to the dead;

7、 Prohibits women from taking care of the dead;

8、 Prohibit the removal of graves without cause;

9、 Forbid hope of death;

10、 Suicide is forbidden.

1. It is strictly prohibited to exploit heavy profits; 2. Adulteration and shoddy goods are prohibited;

3. It is forbidden to hoard wealth and monopolize the market;

VIII. Interpersonal taboos Islam is a religion that values communication, emphasizes human feelings, and advocates high morals. The Prophet said, "My mission is to perfect the morality of mankind. "He believed that only a high moral character could lead to happiness in the afterlife. The principles of interpersonal communication in the Qur'an are honesty, patience, forgiving, cooperation, humility and altruism, good language, good friends, and good manners. Contrary to these principles, Islam prohibits:

2、 A lie is forbidden;

3、 Prohibit slander;

4. No calumny;

5. Libel is strictly prohibited;

6. Do not laugh and use dirty name;

7. Malicious speculation is prohibited;

8. No peeping into others' privacy;

9. Forbid jealousy;

10. It is forbidden to talk in vain;

11. No backbiting.

X. spiritual life taboo :

1. Gambling is strictly prohibited;

2. Drawing lots is strictly prohibited;

3. Divination and reading of physiognomy are strictly prohibited;

4. Sorcery is strictly prohibited;

5. It is strictly prohibited to wear amulets.
