This week in Preschool C we all went on an exciting trip to the local supermarket.

This UOI the students have been learning about how plants support other living things. At present we are exploring the process of how fruits and vegetables go from the farm to our tables. To support this the class has recreated its own farm, supermarket and restaurant.

For the past few weeks, the students have been exploring how plants grow in the classrooms Panda Farm; this week it was time to explore the next stage of the process, buying them in a supermarket.

We started the learning journey by looking closely at what was in our classrooms own fruit and veg market to decide which ones we would like to buy.

Once we had all decided which fruits and vegetables were yummy enough to make it onto our shopping list it was time to for use to go to a real-life supermarket!

Once we arrived it was time to start shopping. The children were eager to point out all of the of the fruits and vegetables they recognised, in Chinese and English! They also enjoyed asking one of the key questions we have been using during this unit, “What is it?”, so they could learn the names of even more fruits, vegetables and even some interesting fish we discovered.

After we had successfully found all of the things on our list it was time to take them to the check out. The children discovered that some items had numbers on them to tell us how much they cost whilst others had to be weighed first.

Now that everything had been paid for, it was time to head back to the classroom. We all worked as a team and helped to carry our purchases. The children enjoyed showing off their fruits or vegs of choice on the sunny walk back to school.
