3月26日周六上午，1班读书交流分享活动如期而至！六个小组成员依次上台分享他们的读书感悟！ 　　光洪分享 O. Henry's《The Cop and the Anthem》！The Cop and the Anthem "is the masterpiece of the famous short story writer O. Henry's in the 20th century. It embodies his writing styles in general." 　　The Cop and the Anthem is a December 1904 short story by the United States author O. Henry. It includes several of the classic elements of an O. Henry story, including a setting in New York City, an empathetic look at the state of mind of a member of the lower class, and an ironic ending. Soapy is homeless. He faces the urgent necessity of finding some sort of shelter for the winter. He is psychologically experienced in thinking of the local jail as a de facto homeless shelter. And the narrative shows him developing a series of tactics intended to encourage the police to classify him as a criminal and arrest him. Soapy's ploys include swindling a restaurant into serving him an expensive meal, vandalizing the plate-glass window of a luxury shop, repeating his eatery exploit at a humble diner, sexually harassing a young woman, pretending to be publicly intoxicated, and stealing another man's umbrella. However, all of these attempts are quickly exposed as failures. As Soapy listens to the church organ play an anthem, he experiences a spiritual epiphany in which he resolves to cease to be homeless, end his life as a tramp afflicted with unemployment, and regain his self-respect. Soapy recalls that a successful businessman had once offered him a job. Among the book's themes is an allusion to the possibility of another cataclysmic world war brewing. It is said to have been inspired at least in part by accounts of travels in Tibetan borderlands, published in National Geographic by the explorer and botanist Joseph Rock. The remote communities he visited, such as Muli, show many similarities to the fictional Shangri-La. He found a man frozen in a block of ice on the way. The man, Victor Frankenstein, told the crew his life story. He had a happy childhood, and he was crazy about natural philosophy and chemistry and basically tried to play God by creating life. When he found the secret of activating dead flesh, he created a monster. Although it was all made by good materials, but it became something ugly. Then he found the monster missing. When the monster was born, he loved the world very much. He hid in the mountains and learned to use fire. But because of his appearance, he became disgusting in everyone’s eyes. When he knew that his only master abandoned him, he was so disappointed to this world that he began to kill his master’s family one by one. Victor finally found the monster. The monster told Victor his experience, and demanded of Frankenstein a female mate who he can be with until his end, and promised to live away from society. Victor made the second monster, but quickly destroyed it. As return for him breaking the promise, the monster killed Elizabeth on the wedding night of Victor and her. From then on, he chased after the monster, and finally he was discovered by the crew on Robert’s ship. There victor ended his story, and died in front of the men. That same night, the monster entered the room where victor laid dead. As a result, Snowball is expelled by Napoleon as a betrayer. Although many animals remember that Snowball is a brave leader, they firmly believe they were wrong and Snowball is a bad animal indeed after brainwashing Napoleon offered. What’s more, the Seven Commandments of Animalism had also been changed.
