  独立寒秋，湘江北去，橘子洲头。看万山红遍，层林尽染；漫江碧透，百舸争流。鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底，万类霜天竞自由。怅寥廓，问苍茫大地，谁主沉浮？

携来百侣曾游，忆往昔峥嵘岁月稠。恰同学少年，风华正茂；书生意气，挥斥方遒。指点江山，激扬文字，粪土当年万户侯。曾记否，到中流击水，浪遏飞舟？

Spring in the Garden Changsha

独立寒秋，湘江北去，

橘子洲头。

On a cool day in late autumn,

Standing alone at the top of Orange Isle,

Xiang River flows slowly north.

看万山红遍，层林尽染；

漫江碧透，百舸争流。

Thousands of mountains turn red,

Layer of trees seem dyed ruby,

The river is crystal blue to the  bottom,

Lots of barges are racing at speed.

鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底，

万类霜天竞自由。

Eagles soar in the vast sky bravely,

Fishes hover into the limpid river freely,

All living things vie for freedom of life under frosty sky.

怅寥廓，问苍茫大地，

谁主沉浮？

Excited about the boundless universe,

I can't help asking the land,

Who is the ruler/master of the world?

携来百侣曾游，

忆往昔峥嵘岁月稠。

Bring a hundred classmates to travel,

Recalling the marvelous days!

Having haunted me all the time.

恰同学少年，风华正茂；

书生意气，挥斥方遒。

When the students in our budding youth,

With spirits and vigours [ˈvigə] in our best years of life,

With lofty mettle and outstanding talent as a scholar.

With all our huge might and great dream to fight.

指点江山，激扬文字，

粪土当年万户侯。

Commenting on state affairs,

Attacking the old forces with our sharp pens,

Treating all mighty ['maiti] warlords of olden days as musk.

曾记否，到中流击水，

浪遏è飞舟？

Do you remember?

While striking the waters in the mid–rapid river,

Where the waves were big enough to stop the speeding boats.

　 Overlooking Orange Isle from the Peak of Mount Yuelu, Orange Isle is like a blue silk ribbon [ˈrɪbən] lying in the middle of the river. It is the world's longest [ˈlɒŋgɪst] inland river isle，with a length [leŋθ] of 5.5km. In the green wood Mao Zedong spent a lot of time walking on the beach.
