My fellow toastmaster and distinguished guests:Before I begin my speech, I want to ask you a question:Do the right things and do things right, which do you think is more important?In my opinion, they are equally important.Do the right things means we need choose the right thing to do, while do things right means we need complete our task in a high-efficient way. These 2 statements need be tied together and they are not opposite to each other. They are just like the key and lock. Without key, you can’t open the lock. Without lock, the key will be useless. Doing the right things can gave us the right direction. If we can’t find the right direction, no matter how efficient way you choose to use, I don’t think you can reach to your destination. You may be lost. Do the right things should be the first step before you think about how to do things right.In the world, there are a lot of things we need choose to do:We can play smartphone; we can accompany our kid.We can watch movie; we can read book.We can eat lunch; we can participate the toastmaster meeting. We can be silent audiences we can be passionate speakers.To choose the different thing to do will bring you different benefits or sufferings.In my not very long life road, I made some correct choices and benefited a lot from it. However, I also made some wrong choices and suffered a lot from it. 20 years ago, in my college aspiration, I filled the English as my optional major choice. Till now, I still don’t think I should fill that choice. If I don’t fill that choice, I may not be assigned to the English Major and I should not suffer from learning English so much. 10 years ago, 2 job offers were placed in front of myself. After 1-night painful thinking, I chose the IBM offer. I think I made the right choice. Without the 10 years in IBM, my career can’t be so smooth.2 years ago, I chose to participate the Toastmaster meeting. It’s very hard for me to stand on the stage to deliver my first speech but finally I made it and my speaking skills were greatly improved.After you do the right things, you also need do things right. If you only do the right things but don’t find a right way to do things, you may also cannot reach to the end. You can be stuck there.It said: “All the roads lead to the Roman” but there must be a short road of them.Do things right means you need complete the task with high efficient way and you need complete the task with less time consumption and high quality deliverable. Every high-quality deliverable will help you earn more reputation for your brand. Less time consumption will help you complete more tasks and increase your values greatly. How can we find a high efficient way to complete our task? You can learn from your teammates. When your teammate is doing some task, you can observe him or her. After your teammate complete the task, you can consult with him/her about the new work way.You can learn from the books. Many books introduce a lot of good work way but you need try it by yourself and find the best way that suitable for you. You can learn from yourself. Every time when you complete a task with a new way, you need do some summaries and do some analysis. “Do the right things and do things right”, you will be a superman everywhere.
