In 1998, thanks for Katia and Roberto, my best Italian clients as well as friends acompanied me to visit here. We spent an unforgettable wonderful time in both palace and park.

Located in Caserta, southern Italy, The Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal residence for kings of Naples. It is the largest palace erected in Europe during the 18th century

Combining the influences of Versailles, Rome, and Tuscany, the Caserta Royal Palace and Park, north of Naples, was designed according to the wishes of Charles of Bourbon III by Luigi Vanvitelli, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 18th century. 

In 1997, Caserta was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site— Its nomination file described it as "the 'swan song’ of the spectacular art of the Baroque period, from which it adopted all the features needed to create the illusions of a multi-directional space."

Caserta is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, and ahead of its time.

The Grand staircase of Honor

From 1924 to 1943, here was the location for the

Italian Air Force Academy.

Court Chapel

From 1943, during the allied invasion , the royal palace serves as Allied Force Headquarter for the 

Supreme Allied Commander in the  Mediterranean  area.

In April 29 1945, the palace was the site of the signing of terms of the unconditional German Surrender of Force in Italy.

Throne Room

The royal palace has more than 40 monumental 

rooms completely decorated with frescoes, when in comparison, Versailles counts on 22 monumental rooms.

The garden, a typical example of the baroque extension of formal vistas, stretches for 120 ha, partly on hilly terrain. It is also inspired by the park of 

Versailles. The park starts from the back façade of the palace, flanking a long alley with artificial 

fountains and cascades. This cascade takes a length of 78 meter long, like a dragon , creating a 

stunning view!

The great scale of the gardens at Caserta is one of the first things visitors notice. 

There are five fountains all with fingers of Greek methologie Gods and godness.

The Fountain of Diana and Actaeon 

The Fountain of Venus and Adonis (1770–80);

The Fountain of the Dolphins (1773–80);

The Fountain of Aeolus;

The Fountain of Ceres.

The grounds are so impressive that they have been the set for major films such as Star Wars and Mission Impossible.

At the top of the park, starting from 1785, at the request of Queen Maria Carolina, ( sister of Maria Antoinette) , and the German botanist John Andrew Graefer realised the first Italian landscape garden.

The park provides horse carriage rides and tours .

First time riding a horse corrage in a park

On the way of riding , we saw an old tree like a grand Mum stretching her hands to welcome us, so we stop and took Photos with the tree.

The horse carrage brought us to visit hidden locations in the park , to discover the secrets inside the Royal Palace.

English Garden

Created at the instigation of Queen Maria Carolina of Austria, it is considered to be the first landscape garden in Italy. 

The horse tour guider asked me to pay USD30:00 after the trip. I doubt a bit whether it is worthy? Just at my hestation, Roberto said Yes! She sang every single  Neapolitan falk song to us to make us happy! Remember her name: Maddalena! An Italian woman with a happy face and good voice!

I was deeply impressed by Caserta in its majesty, significance and astonishing beauty! 

Caserta is a glorious reminder of how buildings and their landscapes can speak acoss ages, how 

they hold emtion and value, how they continue to have things to reveal and share!
